Former Enron chiefs may stand trial in September
Financial Times
By Doug Cameron in Houston

Kenneth Lay and Jeff Skilling could stand trial in September after government prosecutors agreed to drop their push for Enron's former leadership team to face a Houston jury next month.

The Enron Task Force had sought a March trial when it filed fresh fraud and conspiracy indictments against the two men and co-defendant Richard Causey last July.

However, a US district court only ruled last month that the trial should be held in Houston. The three defendants had sought an alternative venue, claiming it would be impossible to secure an impartial jury in Texas.

Prosecutors said in a new court filing that a September trial date would give “ample” time for the three men to prepare their defence, and should avoid any scheduling conflicts among the defence team of two of the three defendants.

1. Wow - that was fast! - only one year after the 04 election!
Gotta give those that Ashcroft Justice Department credit - no way did they allow any political considerations to determine the time table of this prosecution. After all, it only took them 4 years.

3. Thanks.
I wonder when they will announce in the US that the Justice department knew as far back as 1963 that Ken Lay was a colonel in the KGB and that they had his and Putin's dna samples on a match way back in 1971?

5. I second that.
I've been following the story about that black stain on humanity called Ken Lay.

I always love reading more dirt on the guy (as if there isn't enough already).

Please let us know.

7. Keeping them fom a jury is a sure prescription for Bushevik Corruption
Federalist 'Judge', anyone?

I don't know, one wonders if the Federalist Judge that is chosen to let these guys skate might be under orders to throw the mob a bone and hand out some light sentences, which naturally won't result in actual jailtime for Imperial Cronies, but might serve to further the Illusion that the Old USA still exists.
