Thatcher to face court questions on African plot
The Scotsman
Tue 1 Feb 2005

SIR MARK THATCHER will face questioning by Equatorial Guinea prosecutors about his involvement in a failed coup plot in the oil-rich nation, his lawyer said today.

His solicitor, Alan Bruce-Brand, said the son of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher would appear on February 18 at a court in the South African city of Cape Town.

Last month Thatcher pleaded guilty to unwittingly helping bankroll a botched coup plot in oil-rich Equatorial Guinea.

He was fined £270,000, given a suspended jail sentence and was allowed to leave the country.
