Bush to Push for Bigger IRS Budget
Bush to Push for Bigger IRS Budget
Tue Feb 1,11:02 AM ET

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) will ask Congress to give the Internal Revenue Service (news - web sites) an extra $500 million to pursue tax evaders and increase collections, the Treasury Department (news - web sites) said Tuesday.

The boost would mean a nearly 8 percent increase in the IRS budget for tax enforcement, according to a proposal to be included in the fiscal 2006 budget the president sends to Congress next week.

The extra money would be used for audits, collections and investigations. The president proposed a substantial increase in the IRS enforcement budget last year.

"Increasing enforcement not only catches tax cheats but discourages others from avoiding paying their taxes," said Treasury Secretary John Snow.

Gotta gouge that middle class just a LITTLE bit more!

1. Let's see, will it be audits for corporations? Or . . .
. . . increased audits for the middle class?

Remember the "lifestyle" audit fracas a few years ago?

8. I think they're realizing that they're bankrupting the country and trying
to cover that fact with a few increased profits in other areas.

10. More government...typical Republicans
Why don't they just make wealthy people and corporations pay the share they are supposed to be paying??

And the stoopid Repukes will STILL believe the GOP stands for smaller government!

12. Luckily, my taxes are utterly simple and my middle class
income probably won't get questioned.

However, I am expecting about $750 back, so I'm not holding my breath. I don't see the * administration wanting to let go of any money voluntarily.
