China creates first security consultations mechanism with Russia

MOSCOW, February 2 (Itar-Tass) -- The visiting member of China’s State Council, Tang Jiaxuan has said this is the first time China has created a mechanism of security consultations with another country, and that country is Russia. He made a statement to this effect at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin on Wednesday.

“We made the decision to create such a mechanism with Russia, because we have very close positions on international issues, on the world situation, and on regional problems, including measures to maintain peace and promote global development,” the Chinese official said. “For China Russia is the main partner to maintain strategic cooperation with. As we strengthen our strategic cooperation, we should put the emphasis on continuity and stability of these relations and on self-reliance, and keep up with world developments and be abreast with time.”
