Southland (So. Calif.) not getting storm aid
More than three weeks after deadly rainstorms and mudslides devastated Southern California, local officials complained Tuesday they have received no federal aid and that disaster officials seem reluctant to help.

Local leaders criticized the White House and Sacramento, saying Los Angeles and Ventura counties and six others hit hard by the storms need help now to get back on their feet.

Others noted that President George W. Bush's reaction to California's disaster was a far cry from his pre-election rush to view hurricane damage in the battleground state of Florida.

"I don't think you have to have four hurricanes to warrant a declaration of disaster," Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky said. "I'm very disappointed.

8. The Coast is actually fairly liberal
Inland Ventura, however is quite conservative. Also, L.A. County is quite liberal. The coast got hit the hardest. That's where they had that awful landslide. Even if it was conservative, they need all the help they can get regardless of political ideology.

5. The difference between Bush and Kennedy (the dynasty)
When a Kennedy lost a district, that district wasn't punished. It was showered with aid. To make sure it was never lost again.

The difference between dynasties: The long view versus unbelievably petty and short sighted.

Gov. Rick Perry is seeking federal disaster relief for two counties dealing with weather-related damage. Perry is asking the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency to help farmers and ranchers in Hutchinson and Williamson counties.

The governor says the severe weather conditions go back to October first.

He says Hutchinson County is requesting help due to damage from excessive rain and snow.

Williamson County has requested assistance amid damage from excessive rain and flash flooding.
