Rice Says U.S. Won't Join Europe in Iran Nuclear Talks

By Robin Wright
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, February 4, 2005; Page A10

LONDON, Feb. 3 -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Thursday that the United States would rebuff European efforts to bring it into negotiations with Iran aimed at preventing the Islamic state from developing nuclear weapons.

Flying to Europe for her first trip abroad as secretary, she told reporters that the United States was confronting the theocratic government in Tehran in "a variety of ways" with "a variety of different partners" to end its nuclear weapons ambitions, support for Islamic extremism, interference in Iraq and human rights violations.

Her unusually strong words signaled that the Bush administration would take a more robust stand against Iran during the president's second term.

Now ....you will hear Rice say.... "we tried EVERYTHING to prevent war".

1. Is it just me or does Rice seem like a fish out of water? I saw a clip of
her press conference and she sounds very shakey and unsure of what she saying. Almost like even she doesn't believe what she is saying. Oh well, she does have an inspiring personal story so its okay if she lies.

2. she's a puppet for the global elite.... if the US wanted to avoid war...
they would be joining other countries and working out differences.

When you desire "regime change" again....how does that become a discussion?

7. You're right. She's a transparent liar. View the 9/11 Commission testimony

and you can see exactly where she had to "shift gears" mentally and revert to a memorized script. Particularly when Ben-Veniste pressed her about when Bush got his pre-9/11 briefings and their contents.

Powell was much more seamless, especially in his delvery of the WMD speech to the UN, but even he had a little smile that said, "I know I'm not telling the truth, but I believe I'm serving my country here."

Shrub just smirks and stutters and struts. It's hard to tell when he's telling the truth, because he lacks an understanding of the distinction. A lot of people of limited intelligence and acumen mistake *'s moral vacuousness with sincerity.

3. oh the pathetic irony of this statement.......
she told reporters that the United States was confronting the theocratic government in Tehran in "a variety of ways" with "a variety of different partners" to end its nuclear weapons ambitions, support for Islamic extremism, interference in Iraq and human rights violations.

.....hmmmm sounds so much like the US in so many many ways... x(

6. Didn't Chimp say in the SOTU
we were "working with the Europeans on the Iran issue" or something to that effect?

I suppose he (ahem) misspoke.

This is the function of a so called diplomat representing a belligerent power.

By rejecting diplomacy, the path chosen leads to more war.

11. Don't forget Poland!
Her first foray into international relations and she's as much as saying, "blow it out your ass, we're going to do it OUR way".
She is such a vile, ugly creature. She'll never get the respect Powell had (which wasn't much after the Iraq lies) every country knows she's just a lying mouthpiece for a wannabe dictator.

She'll get as much truth and cooperation from other countries as she gives. Which will have the sum total of, none.

snip:
While hailing the Egyptian initiative to bring Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Abbas together next week, she said she had no plans to be at the Sinai summit. "Not every effort needs to be American," she told reporters. "

Apparently NO effort needs to be American except unilateral ones on our part.

12. Why is she even bothering to go to Europe?
Edited on Fri Feb-04-05 08:18 AM by CottonBear
Powell traveled less than any other modern SoS. Why should Condi travel more? She can be just as belligerent and two-faced by phone and satellite feed as she can in person. I am truly horrified that the is SoS.

15. Powell didn't always say what the admin wanted him to....
that's probably why he traveled less than any other modern SoS. Since Bush doesn't have to worry about Condi's devotion, she'll probably travel more than usual.

One week on the job as diplomatic figurehead and diplomacy is already out the window.
She is shaky because I don't think she want's to be that close to the shock and awe that follows.
She could make her stupid statements from the pig farm.
