Couple sought in alleged torture of 5 children in their care
Out of Citrus County, Florida, these folks appear to be on the run in their monster motor home...

http://www.sptimes.com/2005/02/04/Citrus/Children_tell_story_o.shtml

Children tell story of torture

Officers are searching for a couple accused of using electric shock, hammers and starvation to abuse kids in their custody.

Investigators say they think John E. Dollar, 58, and his wife Linda, 51, left Citrus County in a motor home, clearing out the valuables in their rural home after learning of the allegations against them.
<snip>

Entire story at link above, including make, model and license plate ID of the motor home and car they may be driving.

2. But--they're a Het couple....
Another thread in LBN talks about new efforts to ban gays from adopting. Only a male-female set of parents can offer the right kind of home. (Yeah, sure.)

12. As soon as I heard this...I thought to myself...they are probably
Republicans! A good hearted compassionate Democrat could never have done such a thing. But a cold hearted Rep could. As soon as I saw that photo...I was sure.

I wonder how such a thing could happen. Didn't the neighbors hear the poor kids screaming? Didn't their teachers notice their starving bodies and bloody fingers? Oh wait...they were probably home schooled. What bastards!

14. According to the news this morning in Tampa
1. Yes, the kids were home-schooled;
2. They had legal custody, but they weren't their blood relatives (the news was a little unclear on that);
3. The neighbors hadn't seen these children very much, and some didn't even know they were there;
4. They had mattresses covering the windows (to block sound, I suppose).

22. Why homeschool kids if you don't even like them?
They must be complete sadists.

If anyone should go to Gitmo, they should.

32. well, as long as you don't let the queers adopt
then all's fine in sunny Florida.

If these kids aren't blood relatives, then they should have at one point been wards of the state, which means 5 more gold stars for Florida Department of Social Services, to add to the one they got for losing Rilya Wilson, who still hasn't been found.

21. Will they be appointed to Bush's cabinet...
I live about 50 miles away from Citrus county, yes, many Republicans around here. Using Bush's standards of justice, he may be able to appoint this couple to his cabinet.

seems they are perfect for it. <sarcasm> Good thing they weren't gay!! </sarcasm>

Wow - it really is just harmless hazing, right? I'm sure the kids were nasty kids, terrorizing the neighborhood and dangerous, so it's justified... :puke:

that they did to those kids.

14 year old boys weighing 30-some pounds? WTF?? These people sure as hell look as though they ate pretty well themselves.

13. Any questions now
about whether we whould have a Death Penalty?

Do these monsters deserve even the small pleasures one can have during a life sentence...being able to enjoy breakfast, a bit of sunlight, the feel of clean clothes, and so on?

15. The Crimes their committed are NOT death penalty Crimes
Thus your comment is meaningless. The Supreme Court has long ago restricted Death Penalty to Murder and Treason. Torture no matter how bad, as long as it does not end in death of the Victim is NOT a death Penalty crime. Thus whether we have the Death Penalty or not does not affect this case and this case has no bearing on whether we have a Death Penalty.

16. Well, we should make an exception in this case.
Or change the law. Or something, I don't know; I'm not interested in legalistic nitpicking.

What I'm interested in is society's ability to remove monsters like thes people from the face of the earth, so they'll never torture another child again.

Sorry if that offends anyone, but torturing kids, to me, is about the worst thing anyone can do.

If appointed to do so by the state, I'd whack these two myself, without the slightest bit of remorse. I'll probably catch hell from a bunch of people for saying that, but there are some people who are too unspeakably evil to be allowed even the slightest chance to do these horrible things to any child, ever again.

20. Sending child-abusers to prison often is a death sentence.
So many prisoners have been abused themselves as children, child-abusers often don't live to serve out their sentences, but are killed by their fellow inmates.

25. no, you're right Mr. Smart Man
I think they should be burned at the stake...

but first they should be placed on the rack and have their arms and legs ripped apart.

Then acid should be thrown in their wounds as they are tied to the stakes from which they will be burned live on FOX.

If they don't get this punishment, then society is letting them get away with their crimes.

Hey Redstone, if you want to kill people, pick up a gun and go to Iraq.

On second reading I think I did go a bit over the top and I apologize

I reacted harshly to your insinuation that the Death Penalty should be no longer subject to debate.

My state of CT is close to being the first New England state in 45 years to execute someone and I'm upset about it.

18. What really gets me
is people get so outraged at children being tortured, but let them spank the shit out of them and that is ok. The slope is slippery! When it comes to putting hands on children, it is subjective, but everyone can agree on torture? I just do not get our society at all.
OK rant over.

28. Good point, Lynn...
What else would you expect from the people who said (back at the beginning of the invasion, so I don't remember the exact words) "Well, we don't try to kill civilians, therefore we're not going to bother to count how many we do kill."

Anyone capable of such a cynical policy is capable of anything.
