Bush: UN Pact on Iraq Unlikely Before Next Week

CAMP DAVID, Md. (Reuters) - President Bush said on Thursday he doubted the United States would secure agreement on a new United Nations resolution for Iraq by the time he attends the General Assembly next week.

The United States is seeking to persuade the U.N. Security Council to adopt a new resolution that would encourage other countries to contribute cash and troops to help stabilize Iraq.

Asked at a news conference if he thought an agreement could be worked out before the United Nations meeting, Bush replied: "No, I don't think so."

Bush will attend the annual meeting of world leaders in New York on Tuesday and Wednesday.
