SJ police officer to be arraigned today for child molestation

A veteran San Jose police officer accused of molesting an 11-month-old toddler is scheduled to be arraigned today.

Stephen Gallagher, 49, was arrested while on duty early Wednesday night. He was led away in handcuffs from the San Jose Police Administration building.

Gallagher, a 22-year police veteran who was once involved in crime-prevention programs, is accused of molesting the toddler in unincorporated Morgan Hill on Tuesday night, according to Santa Clara County Sheriff's spokesman Deputy Terrance Helm.

Gallagher remained at the Santa Clara County Jail in San Jose on Thursday without bail on suspicion of two felony counts of committing lewd acts with a child. He is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon.
