AP: Broward Democratic activist Trinchitella dies at 87

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. - Amadeo "Trinchi" Trinchitella, a condominium leader and Democratic activist courted by presidential candidates for his sway over Broward County retirees, died Friday. He was 87.

Trinchitella had been at North Broward Medical Center since Tuesday, when he fell and broke his hip while trying to sit on the dais as a Deerfield Beach city commissioner. He had a massive heart attack Thursday, said state Sen. Steve Geller, whose mother was engaged to Trinchitella.

Trinchitella's blessing was sought by countless Democratic candidates as the leader of Century Village, whether they were running for the White House or state office.

"People in Washington knew Trinchi," Geller, D-Hallandale Beach, told The Miami Herald. "They may not have know the local senators or cabinet members, but they knew Trinchi."
