More than 300 hold very 'visible' protests (* Omaha Visit)
Article says there were 300 posters. Must have been 600+, then.

During Bush's speech, a protester stood up in his T-shirt printed with a W in a circle with a slash through it. He yelled obscenities and called Bush a liar. The president made the rare move of publicly responding, saying, "We love free speech in America."

After the speech, about 100 demonstrators lined the sidewalk outside arena exits with their signs and chants. They and the people leaving exchanged not-quite pleasantries.

"Moocher!" a Bush supporter yelled.

"Greedy!" a protester shot back.

Tim Butz, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union Nebraska, called the protesters' visibility Friday "amazing," given the Bush administration's usual handling of demonstrations.

6. I love how repukes are always calling
Edited on Fri Feb-04-05 10:05 PM by LibDemAlways
people "moochers." My repuke cousins are great at that. All blacks are "moochers." Hispanics are "moochers." When asked why they use the word "moocher" so freely, the explanation is "They (minorities) live off the government."

Well, every one of these relatives depends on a government entity for a paycheck. Not one owns a business or works in the private sector. Repuke hypocrisy knows no bounds.

10. My aunt sent them all to Catholic school.
They send their kids to private schools. Don't want their kids mingling with people they honestly believe are inferior. As for the highway, ironically enough before his death my uncle worked for years as a toll collector on the New Jersey turnpike. Sure enjoyed that paycheck from the state, those union benefits, and collected a nice pension, too. But, you should have heard him on the topic of his minority co-workers. You'd have thought none of them ever put in an honest day's work.

14. There is some "sponk" in all of the red states. It's time to stop
overlooking that fact. I've said numerous times...stop ignoring all the blue pockets within those "red" states. With alot of grassroots love from the Dems, we can turn it around. I live in Kansas. Most people laugh and think of it as one of the reddest of them all. Yet, we have a Democratic Governor and my Rep is a Dem. I believe the people here really believe more in Dem "values." They've just been sold more on the glitzy, scary Bush marketing. Truth is, they don't care all that much about same-sex couples. They believe in reproductive freedom. They want better health care. They are tired of being taxed to death. They want better schools. They want to find Osama bin Laden and get the hell out of Iraq. Those my friends, are the things that we need to articulate better.

20. "We love free speech in America." < Heard that before (from * visit to Oz)
He muttered those same words during his Pretzeldential visit to Australia in 2003 to address the Australian Parliament.

Many Aussies prepared to protest but the Howard gov took steps to ensure that * would never see any of them. The motorcade route was cordoned off and they were kept from view of Parliament House behind a barricade down the hill.

This day was the only time in our history that the Parliament House has been off limits to the Australian public. The Australian public were banned from the public gallery.

During *'s speech the government were fawning like true sycophants to the $US and the opposition were pitifully silent. Some way into his address, Bob Brown, one of our courageous Greens Senators, stood up and said to *, "I call on you to return our Australians (from Gitmo) ... and we will respect you." Government members yelled "sit down, sit down" and a parliamentary attendant approached to ask him to leave.

Then, the other Greens Senator, Kerry Nettle rose to protest the 'free trade' agreement Bush and Howard are negotiating in secret (...alas, we signed it) and the government shouted her down to silence her too.

But then * responded that "I love free speech"

This exchange was recorded on video and made it's way onto the evening news because CNN defied orders from our government not to film in our Parliamentary chamber -- something our media is not permitted to do!

'George Bush's speech was almost contemptuous in its tired banality. He treated us as children, he told us a simplistic fairy story laced with cheap flattery.'

Anyhow, the * visit wasn't ALL bad news.
Here's a photo of a police dog biting a policeman.

22. more like "I destroy free speech"
Excellent post, exploited. He is so "canned." Such a product of the marketers and the sales psychologists. I did not know much of the background that you point out but none of it surprises me. As in America, there are an amazing number of cowards and sycophants.

I went to the Web site and looked at the slide show. It's more photos with the usual dumb look on bush's face but in one he is sitting like a talk show host with a woman named Mary Mornin. The caption reads something like this: "President Bush compliments Mary Mornin on her work ethic because she works three jobs." Meanwhile, a smiling and obviously smitten Mary laps it up.

That caption should have read, "Mary Mornin asks why she has to work three jobs in the bush economy."

24. Moocher?
Seems to me, that term should be applied to the greedy Republicans for benefiting off the backs of the poorest of taxpayers.

Bush* has no right to publically speak with only his syncophants present. Since he is traveling on the taxpayer's dime, anyone should be welcome and given the opportunity to hear him as he spreads his lies when he takes his Social Security plan on the road - which by the way was designed to go to Red states that have Democratic Senators.
