Rice says diplomacy can succeed in Iran
Rice says diplomacy can succeed in Iran; allies united to nudge Mideast peace

Feb 04, 2005

ANNE GEARAN

The Canadian Press

BERLIN (AP) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice joined British and German allies pledging Friday to help Israel and the Palestinians seize an opening for peace in the Middle East. They also said diplomacy can neutralize a nuclear threat in Iran.

"Now is the time for our diplomacy to put our alliance to work in the service of great goals and great opportunities that stand before us," Rice said. Calming waters still troubled by the U.S.-led war in Iraq is a major aim of Rice's weeklong trip through Europe and the Middle East. Rice's jammed schedule takes her to two or three countries each day of the trip, her first abroad as the new top U.S. diplomat.

She seemed to make headway in Germany, where Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's government fiercely opposed the war and refused to commit troops.

"We have discussed this topic at length and we very strongly agree that what the country now needs is a perspective towards the course of democracy and stability for its future," Schroeder said after an hourlong meeting with Rice. "We are very much agreed on this purpose and on this being the important point, irrespective of what one thought about the military intervention in Iraq in the first place."

quavering. Must be hell going places where people don't buy your BS.

Good.

Maybe it will open her eyes a little.

5. I followed the press conference...
Hello from Germany,
she simply didn't say this. She said that the U.S.A. would let Europe do what it's doing, but would not in any way support these diplomatic approach.
The funniest thing was, when a german journalist asked them - Schröder and Condi - why Bush is visiting Mainz (instead of Berlin or Hamburg...).

Condi and Schröder: it's about the soldiers there, Bush wants to say hello to them and everybody understands this.

(There are still about 80.000 of Bush's armed guerilla-fighters stationed in Germany).

Could it be the that Bush isn't too welcomed here?

Dirk

9. Mainz has the 1AD
I think. Somebody will correct if that's wrong.

1AD families were told a couple of weeks ago that the division would be redeploying for another year to Iraq, and the spouses were very unhappy to hear this news. The media was not allowed in the tents due to the negative response.

Look to the Bushies to start hand-picking the crowd for this visit.

7. Message from Cliss to Condiment Rice:
"It's a great big world out there, Conda-liar. The world is now your stage, as you cover the globe and speak with hundreds of leaders from many nations.

You are now trying diplomacy on a grand scale, and you are bringing the message from the US to the world, that they must co-operate with the US. As you do, you will start to notice something.

After a few months, when you have covered thousands of miles and filled in hundreds of appointments in your calendar, the countries will all fuse together into one nation. The leaders and their cabinet members and members of parliament, will fuse into one generic individual.

That individual will look at you, and his eyes will be narrowed. He'll be smiling a great big smile, but all the while he'll be watching you. And anticipating your next move.

He will try to double-cross you before you double-cross him, as you surely will if he is vulnerable.

You'll find out that the US hated everywhere you go. And it's because of you, and the people you represent.

10. Can does not imply that it will, or even it will be given a chance
Diplomacy could have worked in Iraq, had we tried it at all.

The fact that the US is not supporting the diplomatic efforts with Iran speaks volumes, and anyone who has a shovel and no bomb shelter in Iran should start digging now. Because these assholes will not be denied their agenda, no matter how disastrous.

Tell them to obey or die. Such a Christian message. I'm just overwhelmed with the Christianity of this administration who believes in preemptive strikes against third world countries. Christ's Golden Rule in action.

Iran blasts Rice's speech

Rice said there was no plan for a US attack against Iran

http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/1AAA240D-1310-4BAB-B0D8-723ABB418DFC.htm
Iranian officials have criticised US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's speech, saying her comments were inaccurate. Speaking to Aljazeera from Tehran on Friday, adviser to the Iranian President Muhammad Shariati said Rice's comments were not warmly welcomed.
"We reject the accusations Rice has directed at Iran, particularly those related to Iran's acts in 'destabilising the region' ," he said.

"All her accusations were inaccurate as Iran has neither dealt with the Taliban nor Saddam's regime, but their relations with past US administrations have been friendly." Rice had said that a pre-emptive strike against Iran is not on the agenda adding that Iran needs to live up to its obligations and agree to verification inspections.

Iran says it has the right to have nuclear technology. But Iran maintains that it has the international right to possess nuclear technology like any other nation con't

24. What should they say?
What should/shouldn't they try to negotiate, and who would be a good choice?

I think an Iranian-American would be a good choice.

25. Open the lines of communications
Without a regular back and forth the first meeting can become nothing but a yelling match with each side making demands, charges, and countercharges against each other.

The problem is, as we have seen, is that the trusted circle that is W-world is increasingly smaller and smaller. A good choice might be an Iranian-American or an experienced diplomat like say Albright but they would never trust her or allow her the exposure.

32. that's exactly what she said. May I say " Flip-flopper?"
Sometimes I think they are complete fools flying by the seat of their pants with no plans or experience and yet they are toying with millions of lives.

Other times I think it's all part of a dark and devious plan to take over the Middle East and more.

In either case, it's frightening to have them completely in control of all three houses of government, the Supreme Court, AND the media.

We really have our work cut out for ourselves...

31. Can Anyone Actually Believe Anything This Woman Says?
Schroeder and the leaders of all the other countries Condi has decided to visit during her image creation world tour are treating her like the idiot relative they are obliged to humor for a day or two. I can't imagine they're taking anything this proven liar and possible war criminal has to say the least little bit seriously.

Photo op, talk shop, send her on her way.

And take a good hot shower as soon as she's gone.
