Child torture' couple arrested
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 12:10 AM by notadmblnd

snip:

Linda Dollar, 51, and John Dollar, 58, were arrested near Salt lake City after detectives in Florida were able to track their mobile phone usage.

Malnourished

Officials said they began investigating the case after a 16-year-old boy arrived at the local medical centre by ambulance on 21 January with red marks around his neck and a cut on his head.

The boy's malnourished condition alarmed doctors, who alerted the authorities.

18. Adopted -according to Jeb Bush, who disapproves of gay adoptive parents
snip> The Dollars were not the biological parents of the seven children. Gail Tierney from the Citrus County Sheriff's Office said they were their legal guardians, and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, commenting on the case Friday, said the Dollars had adopted the children.

7. My thought too; send them to Abu Ghraib, they already know the routine
It's ok to do that shit to Iraq's kids, (pranks) just not to American kids (torture).

8. U.S. police hold couple accused of child torture
http://www.swissinfo.org/sen/swissinfo.html?siteSect=143&sid=5518548

MIAMI (Reuters) - A fugitive Florida couple accused of beating and chaining five children,
pulling out their toenails with pliers and starving them, have been caught in Utah.

Doctors alerted investigators two weeks ago when the couple's 16-year-old boy, who weighed
just 60 pounds (27 kg), was treated at a hospital for head and neck injuries.

The couple, John and Linda Dollar, cared for seven children aged 12 to 17 in their Citrus
County home in west central Florida, investigators said on Saturday.

9. I heard on the news yesterday that two of the children are there favorites
and they were not malnourished or abused... that makes the situation for the other kids even worse (as well as for those two)... can you imagine the psychological consequences of such a "family" dynamic? Absolutely disgusting, horrid people.

10. Sound like Bush voters to me...
Info from several links to other news clippings:

"The family had lived in Beverly Hills, about 85 miles north of Tampa, since August. John Dollar, 58, is a commercial real estate appraiser and his 51-year-old wife taught the children at home. The Dollars' 3,800-square foot home is surrounded by a thick pine forest, and has a pool, spa and a three-car garage."

"The Dollars' large, single-story home is surrounded by a thick pine forest on three sides. The Dollars bought the 3,800-square-foot home in July for $275,000."

When the alert was put out for the couple, police said they would probably be driving their RV and towing a gold Lexus.

12. I'm waiting for the perp-walk...jump suits, shackles, claims of innocence.
And the defense, what will it be? Pick one.
1. We were set up
2. Our beliefs say that ( fill in the blank ) is God's will.
3. Insanity
4. Parental Rights
5. Other

Step one is done. Now move on to trial, then conviction, then sentencing and finally marching their sorry asses to "Old Sparky".

14. This is the CRISIS which bush avoids ... domestic abuse in all its forms
Spousal beatings and death, incest, verbal and physical abuse of children. There's our crisis, bush. That's what you have paid no attention to these last 4 years.

For anyone interested reading about horrific child abuse from the victim's perspective as an adult, read "A Child Called It." Same sort of situation, one favorite child and one child terribly abused, by a mentally unstable mother.

This kind of sh*t goes on all the time and it makes me sick. Why are we spending 4 to 5 billion per month in Iraq when we have this type of crisis right here in America? And just like the Dollars, 99 percent of it takes place behind closed doors. People suspect, and they look the other way because it's so hard to accuse someone of child abuse.

I hate people like the Dollars. They are a waste of skin and oxygen.

Rant over.

24. So true....
You nailed the real crisis.

We have an epidemic in this country--the abuse of children and violence in the home.

One in four women--and one in six males--reports that they were sexually abused before the age of 18. These numbers have been repeated in many studies and surveys.

There are many children who are physically abused and emotionally abused as well. The signs of physical (and especially emotional) abuse are often undetected.

There are many sick people out there, hurting children. These children often turn into abusers themselves.

When will America wake up and face this sickening epidemic that affects all of us?

Twosparkles, a survivor of child abuse.

15. ... and the Khristian Kiddie Kollectors strike AGAIN!
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 12:20 PM by NorthernSpy
Some people collect guns or butterflies. Other people collect stamps, toy trains, and teacups. Lots of folks enjoy collecting all sorts of things.

And then there are those who like to collect other people's children:

TRENTON, Tennessee (AP) -- A couple facing criminal abuse charges forced some of their 18 foster, adopted and biological children -- many of them disabled -- to dig their own graves, warning the youngsters they could be killed and nobody would care, according to investigative documents.

(...)

The home-care nurse told investigators that Debra Schmitz used the Internet to keep in touch with guardians of special-needs children across the country.

The nurse was told "she could get a child through this Web site within three weeks and would not have to go through Department of Children's Services," said the affidavit filed by the Gibson County Sheriff's Department.

Ah... more child-rescuing 'saints': Nine children taken from Rockwood couple accused of abuse:
ROANE COUNTY (WATE) -- Officials with the state Department of Children's Services (DCS) say they recently took nine children from a Rockwood couple after allegations of physical abuse surfaced.

Robert and Nora Ramsey have seven adopted children and two foster children.

And who could ever forget the notorious Jacksons, who adopted and starved four boys.
The story broke on Oct. 10, 2003, when a neighbor made a 911 call to Collingswood police, just before 3 a.m., claiming that “a very young kid” was eating out of a trashcan.

The boy eating garbage was not a young kid, but a 19 year old who identified himself as Bruce. He weighed 45 pounds and was 4 feet tall. The neighbor who made the call sounded distraught: “He says he’s 19. He can’t be 19. Oh, Bruce, I’m about to start crying. It’s a shame.”

Police went to the house and found not just Bruce, but his three adopted brothers, who also looked underfed. A family picture was published coast to coast showing Michael, 9, and 23 pounds; Tyrone, 10, and 28 pounds; and Keith, 14, at 40 pounds.

Authorities were quoted as saying the boys allegedly “were locked out of the refrigerator,” and fed only “peanut butter, uncooked pancake batter and cereal.” Bruce was said to be so hungry that he “chewed on wallboard.”

Find the real parents of these children, and let the poor things go home already!

16. "Torture"? sounds like some harmless fraternity pranks
Sounds like "a few bad apples" "blowing off some steam". Any fundie will tell you that children need discipline. What's wrong with torture as long as the ends justify the means?

(is this what Rush will say?)

19. Give me 20 minutes, just 20
they will never hurt another kid again, I'll guarantee it.

But, no, even some here will not allow the pain that they inflected on CHILDREN be visited on them.

They deserve to rot in prison.

Dave, former abused child.
