Senators Examining Quality of CIA Intelligence on Iran -LAT
WASHINGTON — The Senate Intelligence Committee has launched what its chairman called a "preemptive" examination of U.S. intelligence on Iran as part of an effort to avoid the problems that plagued America's prewar assessments on Iraq.

Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) said in an interview Friday that he had sought the unusual review because the erroneous prewar claims about Baghdad's weapons of mass destruction had made lawmakers wary of the CIA's current assessments on Iran.

"We have to be more preemptive on this committee to try to look ahead and determine our capabilities so that you don't get stuck with a situation like you did with Iraq," said Roberts, who also voiced concern about current intelligence on the insurgency in Iraq.
...
"One of the lessons we learned from Iraq was not to take all information at face value and to ask more questions in the beginning than in the end," Rockefeller said in a statement.

2. Tough task, cherry-picking cherry-picked intelligence.
Tsk. Tsk.

If they know about the PNAC policy being pursued, what difference will it really make for them to review cherry-picked intelligence?

4. This is good news - the Neocons will have a much tougher time...
...passing off bullshit to scare everyone, like the yellowcake and mushroom cloud crap. However, in the case of Iran, it's probable that they do have nuclear capability...:nuke::scared::nuke:

5. This committee is a joke
WE knew the Iraq intel was bogus before the war started; WE knew about the Office of Special Plans that Rummy set up to discredit the traditional intel sources that were questioning Chalabi's sources; WE listened to Scott Ritter and the members of VIP speak out against the credibility of the intel Bush used to go to war.

How could this committee that has access to far more information than we do, claim ignorance of the scam these thugs were pulling? I have no confidence whatsoever in this committee's ability to discern the real threats to this country. I hold them personally responsible for their go along to get along mentality that lead us to this despicable war.

6. Yep. It's prelude to "Oh, we double- and triple-checked. And ...
... Iran really is about to nuke us. Gotta go bomb em now."
