3 Guantanamo Detainees Ordered Released
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 09:59 AM by jasmeel
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The U.S. military has ordered three detainees at the U.S. prison camp in Guantanamo Bay to be freed and 25 others to remain as secret hearings were held into the cases of more terror suspects.

Hearings were held Friday for two detainees before the Administrative Review Boards, which can free prisoners if they determine they no longer pose a threat to the United States or hold significant intelligence value.

<snip>
The decisions came as U.S. District Judge Joyce Hens Green ruled that the review tribunals were unconstitutional because detainees were not allowed lawyers and were not allowed to hear classified information against them. She then halted legal proceedings pending a government appeal because her order conflicted with another federal judge's in a separate case.

The decision to free three detainees "doesn't change the fact that the process is unfair, but it does highlight the need for a fair process to determine how many other mistakes have been made," said Steven Shapiro, the national legal director for the American Civil Liberties Union (news - web sites).

1. So far not one single conviction
all of these lives ruined and no one is held accountable.

Instead we now have for our AG one of the main people behind this travesty.

2. How long before the Fatwa on Bush and Rice?
Once the stories these people will tell get back to their homes, how long before there is a formal Fatwa on Bush and Rice?

I fear we have "awakened a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve."

3. Geneva Convention says spies can be shot
I wish we treated ununiformed combatants in accordance with the Genevas Convention.

What do spies have to do with anything? What is the "Genevas" convention?

Your poor grammar and logic betray your intentions.

6. *Aren't "spies" generally deployed away from where they live?
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 10:24 AM by underpants
What good is it to have a "spy" tell you something you already know about?

"spies" :eyes:

7. What intentions?
Hitting the "S" button when I reached for the "A" button next to it only betrays that I have fat fingers. Why should we be the only ones abiding by the Geneva Convention and then only to the friendly parts? Is the intention to orchestrate a loss?

8. The intention is
That anybody can be grabbed up and put in jail just because the king says so.

Is that what you are in favor of? With a name like freedomist, I wouldn't think so, but then b*** did get 47% of the vote, and I didn't think that would happen.

9. No, I'm not in favor of grabbing just anybody up
,nor am I in favor of granting the enemy a victory by compromising our ability to win by allowing them to fight a war without uniforms without being treated as spies. I've seen no proof that anyone was picked up for no reason at all. When I do then I'll have a problem with it. Until then, judging by the the big giant hole in the ground where the World Trade Center used to be and the fact the friends of mine that used to work there are still dead, I'll assume we have enemies in this world that need to be dealt with. And to my knowledge, I've never heard of one terrorist uniformed operation.

10. Are they spies or are they terrorists?
Two rather different categories, I could think.

11. So sad
Blaming a dirt poor Afghani farmer for the trade towers demolition is about as sad as one can be.

Proof, you say? The king don't need no proof. And you blindly follow him. The prisoners now being held have no proof of their being involved in the trade towers demolition, yet you are ready to lynch them. Your kind make me sick, as it made sick the Forefathers of this country.

5. What does it say about rock farmers?
The vast majority of these "spies"* were just standing by the road when the US military came through "Hey you get in the truck!" "Sure okay" much in the same way they were standing by the road when a trucklod of Taliban pulled up and said "Hey you are you in the Taliban?" "Sure okay" was the response.

90% of these guys have never had any "intelligence" to impart in the first place they were picked up so Rummy could get up and announce that # of Taliban had been captured. Three years later they are so far out of the loop that they offer NO chance of anything relevant.

Still no convictions pertaining to 9/11. Zero.

15. Well, speaking of the uninformed .... R.I.P.
I really gotta love a "moral code" that has the King's 'X' out clause of "we don't gotta do it if we think they don't."

"Do unto others as they would do unto you, but do it first." -- The Revised Moran Code According to GOP (God Of Profits)

It helps to deliberately lie and misinterpret the provisions of those "quaint" Geneva Conventions, too. Or just pay the whore pundits to do it. Repeatedly. It's only taxpayer money. What the Hell.

16. UN investigation report
is here... http://www.unhchr.ch/huricane/huricane.nsf/NewsRoom?OpenFrameSet

the complaint process to the UN is here

http://www.ohchr.org/english/issues/detention/contact.htm

What is going on in Guatanamo Bay is a tragedy. Whether or not our government feels that they are terrorists they still have the right to due process of law. In America you have 72 hours to arraign a person on charges or else you have to let him/her go. It's going on 4 years now. I'm new to this website, but I'm shocked that this issue isn't all over the site for someone to do something about it.

Our own government won't let the United Nations inspect how we are treating "detainees". They aren't even categorized as "Prisoners of War".

I know I'll do my part and write, what about you?!
