ROME (AP) - A colleague of an Italian journalist abducted in Iraq said she
received a call from the cell phone of Giuliana Sgrena on Saturday - but
heard no voices, only Arabic music in the background - as Italians hoped the
strongly anti-war stance of Sgrena's paper could help win her release.

Sgrena, 56, a reporter for the left-wing Il Manifesto, was abducted Friday
by gunmen who blocked her car near Baghdad University and pulled her into
their vehicle while exchanging fire with university guards. Shortly before
she was kidnapped, Sgrena had been interviewing people who fled last year's
U.S. assault on the Sunni insurgent stronghold of Fallujah.

It was the first reported kidnapping of a foreigner since Iraq's election last
weekend.

Barbara Schiavulli, a colleague of Sgrena working in Baghdad, received a
15-second call from Sgrena's cell phone early Saturday, hearing only Arab
music playing.

2. Why can't they figure out where she or at least the cell phone is now?
Can't they determine where that phone is by what cell towers it tapped into? I hope this wasn't a situation where she called and now they know she has a phone!

3. They should be able to track it
Don't they triangulate to determine the source of the wave?

6. I don't know about reporters cell phones
I would think that they use the latest and greatest. but mine has a gps device in it. I have the option of having it on or off, but still it is there. So why is it they haven't located her?

5. P - U!
This one stinks like a three-day-old slab of uncooked chicken given a generous coating of cigar and cigarette butts and ash and left to age in the sun.

I'm afraid that Giuliana Sgrena has just learned the meaning of the word "bargaining chip".
