Mother Confesses To Starving 3 Children To Death

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Police said Saturday a Huntsville mother confessed to starving her three children to death.

The bodies were discovered Friday in the family's apartment.

Huntsville Police Sgt. Ed Cain said Nathshay Yvonne Ward, 33, has been charged with capital murder. Police spokesman Wendell Johnson said that when the children were discovered, they did "appear malnourished."

Utilities had been turned off in the apartment since Jan. 12, and the children had not been in school since after the holiday break, Johnson said.

Family members told police that they had been trying to visit the family for the past few weeks, Cain said. But the children's mother would not let them into the apartment.
