Idea of Dean’s chairmanship excites party
Idea of Dean’s chairmanship excites party

Published Sunday, February 6, 2005
WASHINGTON (AP) - Howard Dean’s bid for chairmanship of the Democratic Party has tapped into members’ hunger for a fighter who can recruit new supporters, raise plenty of money and inspire enthusiasm in a party out of power.

Now he’s on the cusp of leading a party that once rallied behind his presidential bid, only to abandon him a year ago when the voting started in Iowa.

"He gave the Democratic Party its swagger back," said Kathy Sullivan, chairwoman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, reminiscing about Dean’s willingness to challenge President George W. Bush. "He reminded them that they should not act like a beaten dog."

Still, some Democrats worry about the image Dean projects: anti-war Northeastern liberal from Vermont, the state that led the way on civil unions for gays. Amid all the talk of values, Democrats wonder whether Dean would be an albatross as they try to make inroads with conservative-leaning voters in the South and Midwest.

Those Dems "worried" about Dean can take a flying leap. They have failed over and over again to craft a meaningful message and that's why they keep losing.

The only way to win is by offering a clear alternative to the Rethugs who have taken over the WH, both houses of Congress, the Supreme Court and the media. And the corporate Dems saw it coming and they let them.

Good riddance to them. It's time for new leadership!

3. Worried about what? The destruction of the Democratic party?
Why, that has already taken place dear. The only place from here is up. And, well, Dean is the best we can offer at the moment. I "think" I can trust Dean. I dunno. We'll see.

2. Anyone concerned about Dean's image is still subservient to Repubs.
We don't need no more steenkin' pink tutus in this party.

6. Learn this worriers.....
Its not about how many moderates we can sway, its about reaching a proportion of the apathetic 40% that didnt vote!!

I know quite a few people who didnt vote because they saw the Dems as rightwing lite. They saw almost no difference on the issues that they care about in regards to Iraq and terror....

9. That's an excellent point!
I talked with several people who thought there wasn't any point in voting in the last election.

Apathy is rampant.

11. "some Democrats"
Why, when this phrase is used, are these Dems never named--with the possible exceptions of Hindery and some guy named Randy Buttons?

;-)

"some Democrats" "sources say" etc.

;-)

13. Watch the movie "Outfoxed" sometime...
It shows how FAUX NEWS uses phrases like that (i.e. "some people") to pass off their biases as news. In reality, they have no sources, but of course nobody can prove them wrong if they don't mention names.
