http://www.theolympian.com/home/news/20050206/topstories/82773.shtmlA pro-Dino Rossi business group working to prove the November governor's election was riddled with flaws says it has identified 54 people who were convicted of felonies in Thurston County and voted illegally.
But an examination by The Olympian found some flaws in that list:
- Two of the listed felons had their rights restored and voted legally.
- One of the people listed was not a felon at all but a retired college professor.
- In many cases, notice of a person's felony conviction was not forwarded to county election officials, so the felon's name could not be removed from voting rolls.
... Of those 38 felons the association says voted illegally in Thurston County, contact information could be found for 11. Three of the 11 said they were not the person named in the court documents.
The building association said Thomas Kerr, 40, convicted of attempting to elude a police car, voted in Olympia in November. But the address listed on the voting records the building association provided to The Olympian led to a 73-year-old retired college professor with the same name.
... "Whatever the group is, it has every right to go and check this and be sure that every one of these are valid votes," Kerr said. "But I think they owe it to people to check on it before they turn it over. They open up people to terrible embarrassment, and perhaps lawsuits."
