Clark will participate in presidential debate
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/news/archive/2003/09/18/national1732EDT0712.DTL

Retired Gen. Wesley Clark will participate in the Democratic presidential debate next week, party officials said Thursday.

Democratic National Committee spokeswoman Debra DeShong said Clark's campaign confirmed that he will be at the party's debate on economic issues next Thursday in New York City.

Clark was scheduled to give a paid speech on Thursday, the day the nine other candidates were scheduled to participate in the debate that will be broadcast live on CNBC. His aides had said he may have to miss the debate to honor his commitment.

He was criticized by rival campaigns, who said Clark should change his schedule to lay out his position on economic issues.

17. You like Nafta?
I wouldn't normally wish someone's job was transferred to India... but supporters of Nafta probably deserve it the most.

That said, the debate should be judged on who slaps Bushco the best. We don't need a bloodbath between the candidates.

19. It's his notion you can just repeal it
without suffering any consequences. NAFTA sucks, but you can't just get rid of it. His position is rather foolish.

24. Well
it needs to have worker and environmental protections worked in. Also, Chap 11 should be nullified (that's the provision that allows foreign governments to sue for expropriation of future profits.) In it's place, a provision that any corp that violates local law will be subject to fines, as determined by an international tribunal. Living wages should be established for workers, dictated by the local economy of said worker. Also, basic health care should be provided by the company doing business in whatever country. Jobs in the US should not be allowed to be shipped overseas any longer, but if a company wants to relocate, let them--but they expatriate from the US, which means no tax breaks.

Those are just some things I would do.

NAFTA is a mess, but it can be fixed. Pulling it lock, stock and barrel would probably be worse than leaving it as is. I just can't agree with Dennis on this. Sorry. Hope this helps.

6. Clark Is Working the Media Well
All he did was say he wasn't sure whether he'd attend, and it was a story. Then he says he's decided to attend, and it's another story. ;-)

12. Dean and Clark will play nice
Remember, they talked last week. I bet they negotiated a peace accord. And I bet they also discussed being the other's VP if one of them should get the nod. Dean help Clark out by attacking Kerry, calling him "Bush Lite."

22. Absolutely
There's no reason for Clark to play mean right at the start. He needs to be agressive on the campaign trail, but he's got the "officer and a gentleman" thing going for him, so he's got to play nice for awhile.

...there never should have been any question that he'd participate. It would have made him look like an Ah-nuld!
