Mideast Ceasefire To Be Announced
Edited on Mon Feb-07-05 12:45 PM by cal04
Israeli and Palestinian leaders will announce a ceasefire at their summit in Egypt tomorrow. The announcement should bring to an end four years of bitter fighting. The second intifada in September 2000 after Ariel Sharon, now Israeli Prime Minister, visited the al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

Rioting led to a full scale uprising in which more than 4,000 people - many of them civilians - have died. But with hopes for a breakthrough in the peace process rising, a truce has been agreed.Mr Sharon will make the announcement with Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian President. They are meeting on Tuesday at Sharm-el-Sheikh in Egypt.Negotiators finalised the ceasfire agreement during last-minute preparations for the summit.

Saeb Erekat, a Palestinian negotiator, said: "The most important thing at the summit will be a mutual declaration of cessation of violence against each other."An Israeli government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the ceasefire to the Associated Press news agency.

Israel-Palestinian truce 'likely'

Israeli and Palestinian leaders will sign a truce on Tuesday to end four years of fighting, reports say.
The deal will be agreed when Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon meets Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas for talks in Egypt on Tuesday, sources say. Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said a mutual truce would follow the summit, the highest-level talks between the two sides since the intifada began in 2000.

6. Well....
I have already seen talking heads and peeps from his admin. bragging about elections in Palestine and taking credit for the progress there.

They are such spin meisters.

He didn't do a friggin thing for 4 years. Now he's the fn hero. Unless he poisoned Arafat, he has no right to claim that this is his doing and success.

IDIOT

9. Why the pessimism?
Because these people have been at each other's throats for hundreds of years?

Get with the Republican program, and turn that frown upside down!
