Mortar Barrage Kills Up to 14 in Iraq (Iraqi recuits)
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20050208/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq

Police said insurgents shelled the old Muthana airfield in the heart of the capital, home to an Iraqi National Guard headquarters that has come under frequent attack in the insurgent campaign to undercut Iraq's fledgling security services.

Hospital officials said up to 14 people were killed in the barrage.

Violence erupted elsewhere in Baghdad on Tuesday, as militants battled Iraqi security troops and explosions sounded over the city, leaving at least five other Iraqis dead, officials said.

Three police officers were killed in clashes that broke out in Baghdad's western Ghazaliya neighborhood, scene of numerous clashes and assassinations over the past six months.

1. "Let freedom reign"......
said the coward in chief.

What a colossal screw up Iraq is now that Bush brought them "freedom." That man screws up everything he touches.

2. Are we seeing more casualties per attack now?
Or is it just safe for the facts to come out now that the elections have been "taken care of" both here and there?

4. Being an Iraqi Policeman, National Guardsman, hell.................
just about any position in Iraqi government comes with a form letter death certificate to be filled in by the nearest living individual. Unemployment is so rampant there that they have to take these jobs to "put food on their families". For many, defending their fledgling Democracy is the last thing on their minds, they just want a job. It doesn't surprise when they turn tail and run at the first sign of battle. They're not stupid, they don't want to die, they just want a paycheck.

Yep, nice going bushie! If you're counting on Iraqi defenses to take over there so our troops can come home, you're not doing a whole lot of counting.

5. I heard on the radio
an hour ago that this was a "suicide bomber."

In fact, I have never heard anyone admit that a "mortar attack" has ever caused any mass-casualty incident in Iraq.

What would be the strategic purpose of reclassifying every incident as a "suicide bombing" whether it is or not?

6. This was a major attack
It means the resistance is well armed and organized.

It means that lots more people are going to die before this conflict is over. Especially when the people in charge like killing people because it's good for business.

7. Iraq Resistance Report Monday 020705
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 09:36 AM by jmcgowanjm
How much do you want to know

Fierce battle rages in ar-Ramadi.

In a dispatch posted at 5:20pm local time Monday evening,
the correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in ar-Ramadi
reported that fierce fighting was raging as he wrote his
report between US forces backed by their puppet so-called
“Iraqi national guard” stooges on one side and the
Iraqi Resistance on the other. The battle was raging in
the neighborhoods of at-Ta’mim, al-Mal‘ab, al-Iskan,
Jisr al-Warrar – areas to the east and west and in the center
of the city.

The correspondent reported that Resistance forces had killed
or wounded more than 54 US troops and destroyed
nine Humvees and one armored vehicle. They had also set
five vehicles belonging to the puppet guards ablaze.
The correspondent described the fighting as of the
greatest intensity. A whole unit of the puppet guards fled at
one point from the battle field. The correspondent wrote that
he personally saw US soldiers fleeing before the
Resistance fighters who appeared determined to fight to
the death.

US fighter planes and helicopters bombarded positions of
the fighters but inflicted no particular losses on them. In
the midst of the fighting, the correspondent met with
the commander of the Asad Allah al-Ghalib ‘Ali ibn Abi
Talib Resistance organization who said, “We have been able
to assert our authority over them the Americans. They’re now
in the trap. The dog has fallen into the hunter’s trap. We
drew them into a narrow area where it’s easier for us to
move around. God willing, I will have good news to bring
you.”

Hey, CNN, FOX, you think you
could get a reporter to this Capitol
of AlAnsar province? No?

8. US forces have sealed off all entrances and exits to ar-Ramadi.
The correspondent wrote that word had just come in from
the as-Sikak neighborhood that the Americans had released
a gas that causes choking and melts flesh. He reported
that there was no word on the extent of casualties among
the Resistance fighters or civilians. A doctor in ar-
Ramadi Hospital told the correspondent for Mafkarat al-
Islam that so far there had been four civilian deaths, two of
them children; and six Resistance fighters martyred,
including one youth aged only 16 who died fighting. Asked
what exactly he meant by that, the doctor said that the youth
killed an aggressor soldier as he himself was dying.
His companions were unable to wrench the machine gun out
of the dead youth’s grip, and the doctor had to do it in
the hospital by force and with hot water.

Witnesses report that a massive American force is
headed towards the embattled city from al-Khalidiyah in the
east.
