Bush to Seek Funds for Polish Military
Bush to Seek Funds for Polish Military

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) said Wednesday he will ask Congress for $100 million to help modernize the armed forces of Poland, a staunch ally in the war in Iraq (news - web sites) — a nearly 50 percent increase over last year .

During an Oval Office meeting with Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski, Bush said he was confident that Congress would approve the money. The United States gave Poland $67 million in military aid last year.

Asked whether he would support legislation introduced in Congress to address the visa problem, Bush said, "Well, we've got a way forward to answer the questions of a lot of the members of the United States Congress to get this issue solved."

............. "I adopt the principles and accept the recommendations of the road map," Bush said, "and that'll become the basis for legislation."

They're no longer hiding it.

It's pretty sad when the U.S. has to bribe other countries to keep them friendly.

7. Gee, maybe it'll be like when we helped Saddam build up his military
or we helped Afghanistan fight off the Russians. In 10 years or so, we'll have some reason to invade Poland. Totally illogical, I know, but it is the first thing I thought of.

Don't forget Poland.

OMG, the madness...

I resent how much we're spending on our own military at the expense of social programs. Why do we need to give money for other country's military.

9. Huh? We're funding the Polish army now? What happened to fiscal restraint?
Incidentally, if you've ever been to Poland, especially a Polish hospital, you know that they need butter a hell of a lot more than they need guns.

12. In an Imperialist sort of way it makes sense
Turning Poland into a credible military force is smart geopolitical play for very little money. It's obvious that the neocons want to keep the Europeans as divided as possible. Plus, Poland has a history in WW2 of fighting alongside Americans and Brits so they kind of fit in. Poland also must also have a residual fear of Russia and Germany. I bet they're cheap to keep as mercenaries in our Imperial military.

16. Poland has had 16 fatalities in Iraq
According to icasualties. This $100 million + the other $67 million puts the price at about $10 million per Polish corpse.

19. That's 16 more than France, Canada, Germany, Turkey, Mexico have lost
America's going to need as much help as it can get from these collations of the "willing" in the future.

15. Funny...
Polish police beat up protesters for "insulting a head of state" which is a crime in Poland.

The fascists support each other...

http://www.indymedia.org/en/2005/02/112916.shtml

Systematic police repression led up to and followed the alternative economic conference and anti-WEF protests on 29 April 2004, but during Dec/2004 and Jan/2005, a new wave of police repression against human rights activists has started in Poland.

On 11 December 2004, police attacked a music concert at the ElektroMadonna squat in Częstochowa without showing a warrant, illegally searched the building without independent witnesses present, detained 15, and filed minor drug charges. The motive for the attack is hypothesised to be anti-war organising at the squat.

On 26 January 2005, police in Krakow violently attacked peaceful protestors (pl) (en) opposing war criminal Putin's presence at the 60th anniversary of the freeing of Auschwitz-Birkenau, and detained about 28-35. Police suggested they would charge people for insulting a head of state (Article 136 in criminal law), but as of 29.01.2005, only one person remained accused of this; other charges such as assaulting a police officer remain.

18. AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
I am so sick of this shit and this idiot "leader" of ours. We are cutting benefits to our people so that we can fund the military in Poland?

If this makes sense to anyone, I question their sanity.

This dipshit is destroying our country by bleeding it dry. Who has the balls to stop him and his cronies?
