Romney may go Hollywood in Calif. recall endorsement

Venturing outside the state's political universe, Governor Mitt Romney appears ready to endorse Arnold Schwarzenegger in his bid to be governor of California.

Romney, at a meeting of Republican donors and governors yesterday, declined to confirm his plans, but said he would support the Republican with "the best chance of being elected governor." Advisers said all signs appear to be pointing toward Schwarzenegger, who, like Romney, has top GOP consultant Mike Murphy on his campaign payroll.

"I'll be supporting the candidacy of one of the Republicans," Romney said. "I will at some point decide who I think stands the best chance of being elected governor, and who'd be the best governor of the state, and expect to support them any way I can."

Shannon O'Brien was a lousy, lousy candidate. For some reason, the Party here thought she had the best chance. She put out round after round of shrill, vacuous ads, while Romney was smart enough to not make a big deal of his policies in his ads. She couldn't stop talking about seniors and prescription drugs - my solidly Democratic household couldn't stand her.

lost against Erhlich, her Republican opponent, for governor of Maryland.

Ehrlich ran as Bush clone. KKT was accused of being too shrill as well.

I think it was a tough time for a woman candidate. Polls showed that people were worried about terrorism and that they thought the Republicans were better in that area.

Both Romney and Ehrlich made economic promises that their opponents knew they couldn't keep. But O'Brien and KKT were not able to refute the promises in a way that appealed to the voters.

19. Not to be sexist but

woman politicans need special training in speech and politicking because
of the automatic responses given to females when they speak out. Well, to be fairly sexist it applies to the expectations of both sides. A woman can't come across emotively nervous or apologetic or deferential or vaguely idealistic. A lady on NPR who trains British women pols about conscious presentation was quite good about crafting the voice where it forms and posture that the personal really and professionally intends. Many of course do have the gift naturally but when will our party become a little more professional in the political skills and craft everyone either disapproves of or takes for granted?
