Block grant program in jeopardy
AP) — President Bush's plan to make deep cuts in the popular Community Development Block Grant program ... was harshly criticized yesterday by mayors, who said such a move would undermine efforts to provide affordable housing, create jobs and keep other urban renewal efforts afloat. <snip>

2. You know O'Malley was right!
I hope they keep attacking him for his attack on the Bush budget. It will call attention to what the budget is really doing.

4. Wow, that's my sister's newspaper. She lives in that area
I remember trying to find housing in that locale that would accept section 8 voucher back in 1999. Next to zero housing was available. We have special needs so needed specialized housing.

That whole area is so beautiful. It still maintains it's "gold rush" ambience--crazy Clampers and all (lol). In the smaller communities people are very close, they help each other like no other place I know of.

My own sister took in an elderly lady friend so she could die in peace in a family that cared about her. There was so much activity in the way of care (possibly afforded by the BG's) for this woman and my sister.

There isn't much work up there but it's a tight-knit and special area of historical value. It would be a shame to kill off any monies that keep the towns solvent in their helps programs.

Thanks for posting.
