Bush proposal draws Texas farmers' ire
Texas farm groups, noting that even presidential requests get pushed aside by Capitol Hill committees, say they are not panicking over President Bush's proposal to sharply cut the top limit of direct payments to growers to $250,000 from $360,000.

The reason for the calm is that few believe Bush's "suggestion" will end up as envisioned.

"Hopefully, the odds are low," Steve Pringle, legislative director of the Waco-based Texas Farm Bureau, said of the likelihood Bush will get his way.

"Can we escape reductions in the programs overall? That's a whole lot more difficult question."

I see a lot of signs on pickup trucks that say "Bush's farn and Ranch Team", whatever that's supposed to mean. So these people get what they deserved.

7. Bush will make a statement next week that "he is for the farmer"
Bush will make a statement next week that "he is for the farmer". Then they will feel safe for another month or so - until they see the cuts making it to subcomittees.

Then Bush will say: "I am behind farmers". And once again they will feel safe.

12. Yeah, Bush is "behind farmers," and he's saying, "bend over and take it."
I can't believe they're saying, "Congress will save us from the lying chimp we voted for. God bless America."
