Iran Promises 'Burning Hell' for Any Aggressor
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20050210/ts_nm/iran_dc&e=14&ncid=716

~snip~

The Iranian nation does not seek war, does not seek violence and dispute. But the world must know that this nation will not tolerate any invasion," President Mohammad Khatami (news - web sites) said in a fiery speech to the crowd in central Tehran.

"The whole Iranian nation is united against any threat or attack. If the invaders reach Iran, the country will turn into a burning hell for them," he added, as the crowd, braving heavy snow blizzards, chanted "Death to America!."

Senior officials had called for a big turnout at the revolution anniversary parades to send a message to Washington which has toughened its stance on Iran in recent weeks.

President Bush (news - web sites) said Wednesday a nuclear-armed Iran would be "a very destabilizing force" and urged the West to work together to stop this happening.

1. Iran will fuck us UP if we attack.
Here's a country that has not had sanctions in place for 12 years, that has not had its airspace controlled by a foreign power and that does possess some rather deadly cruise missiles.

This is all just for openers.

2. Hell, Iran has our antiaircraft missiles
Thanks to 'Republican-patriot" Oliver North. He made sure that our "evil enemy" has the means to shoot our pilots and planes out of the sky if Bush should attack Iran.

On behalf of our soldiers, thanks a major pantload, "Republican Patriot" Col. Jolly Ollie North

9. Forget all that...
If we invade Iran, the people will be so pissed off they'll tear us to pieces with their bare hands. And, to further your point, they haven't been depleted for 10 straight years by our sanctions and sickened by DU, and are likely to put up MUCH more of a fight than the persecuted people of Iraq.

46. Of course they'll cream us.
They actually HAVE weapons.

I'll kick any Democratic congressperson's ass if they support invading this country. Clearly, by invading Iraq, we struck the hornet's nest hard. Now, we don't have the means to attack, even if it was necessary.

If drafted (I'm young enough), I'll RUN to Canada, barefoot.

29. great insight here ..
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article7147.htm

snip> The Gulf is nothing but a large lake, with one narrow outlet, and most of its northern shore, i.e., Iran, consists of mountainous terrain that affords a commanding tactical advantage over ships operating in Gulf waters. The rugged northern shore makes for easy concealment of coastal defenses, such as mobile missile launchers, and also makes their detection problematic

The US Navy has never faced anything in combat as formidable as the Sunburn missile. But this will surely change if the US and Israel decide to wage a so-called preventive war against Iran to destroy its nuclear infrastructure. Storm clouds have been darkening over the Gulf for many months.

The US ships in the Gulf will already have come within range of the Sunburn missiles and the even more-advanced SS-NX-26 Yakhonts missiles, also Russian-made (speed: Mach 2.9; range: 180 miles) deployed by the Iranians along the Gulf’s northern shore. Every US ship will be exposed and vulnerable. When the Iranians spring the trap, the entire lake will become a killing field.

Armed with their Russian-supplied cruise missiles, the Iranians will close the lake’s only outlet, the strategic Strait of Hormuz, cutting off the trapped and dying Americans from help and rescue. The US fleet massing in the Indian Ocean will stand by helplessly, unable to enter the Gulf to assist the survivors or bring logistical support to the other US forces on duty in Iraq. Couple this with a major new ground offensive by the Iraqi insurgents, and, quite suddenly, the tables could turn against the Americans in Baghdad. As supplies and ammunition begin to run out, the status of US forces in the region will become precarious. The occupiers will become the besieged…

57. Not so fast
There are few things harder in naval warfare than targeting moving warships at long range and hitting them with missiles. A missile needs the precise location, course and speed of a target to hit it. What the missile seeker does is search within a imaginary box, say 3 miles by 3 miles, centered on a calculated aim point. The missile will hit the first ship it sees in that box. Getting that aim point is very hard - a shore based radar can only see about 15 miles so the Iranians would have to send aircraft and ships to actively search for the US Navy. Knowing the threat, do you think that the US Navy would let any Iranian get close to them? It takes a lot of coordination and practice to do over the horizon targeting - the US navy practices this all the time and it is still damned hard. The Iranians have never shown the expertise to do it well. The Sunburn is an incredible weapon but it is the last step in a long and difficult chain of events.

Do you think they called North Korea? Are they coordinating this rebuke of Rice?

Do you think Karl Rove could have not taken the afternoon off yesterday to vainly go over his electoral genius with Hannity?

Do you think Rice should have know she didn't quite provoke the same meme in the minds of the World as Powell!

Perhaps the U.S. could have apologized for fucking up the Iranian democracy 40 years ago - you know - try a little diplomacy - since they are so into "Democracy talk" these days!

10. Do you feel vulnerable?
Bush is a coward...

In addition to his cowardly service in the Guard, he knows that North Korea, Iran would do major damage to us. Top that with the fact that Russia and China won't sit back and let this happen again really gives him pause.

Another issue is that practically the whole world hates us. What is to stop many countries from getting together and invading us on all four sides. From both oceans, plus Canada and or Mexico. It could happen.

Do you feel vulnerable?

19. Thank God for resistance.
Answer: yes, I feel vulnerable. But that's only due to the fact that I'm not sure Bush Feels Vulnerable. I think after this 2nd election, he feels truly invincible. NOTHING can stop him. Not the American people, not the rest of the world which is so opposed to him.

He's: SUPERBUSH.

I really believe they are absolutely sure of their certain march to victory. And haven't we seen this, time after time?

....however, even if they are supremely confident, this is one battle that will be tough for them to win. They're discussing that very fact, as we speak. Right now, they're wondering what they can do to win in Iran. Next, it's off to Syria.

The entire Middle East is now a US puppet, with the exception of Iran and Syria. coincidence?

Anger at U.S.scientists designing of new nuclear weapons

Big News Network.com Tuesday 8th February, 2005
=========

Anger has greeted the news that U.S. scientists have been commissioned to develop a new generation of nuclear weapons.

A report in the New York Times* earlier this week said $9 million and up to 100 people had been allocated for the project.

Design of the new arms is underway at the nation's three heavily-guarded nuclear weapons laboratories, at Los Alamos, Livermore and Sandia.

Critics argue the new weapons will have to be tested which would breach a 1996 test-ban treaty. Others say it will be hard for the Bush administration to persuade other countries to give up weapons programs as it moves to expand and upgrade its own arsenal.

U.S. Redesigning Atomic Weapons

By WILLIAM J. BROAD

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/07/science/07bomb.html?ei=5094&en=8a98a0e3bb90c1d8&hp=&ex=1107752400&partner=homepage&pagewanted=print&position=

Worried that the nation's aging nuclear arsenal is increasingly fragile, American scientists have begun designing a new generation of nuclear arms meant to be sturdier and more reliable and to have longer lives, federal officials and private experts say.

The officials say the program could help shrink the arsenal and the high cost of its maintenance. But critics say it could needlessly resuscitate the complex of factories and laboratories that make nuclear weapons and could possibly ignite a new arms race.

So far, the quiet effort involves only $9 million for warhead designers at the nation's three nuclear weapon laboratories, Los Alamos, Livermore and Sandia. Federal bomb experts at these heavily guarded facilities are now scrutinizing secret arms data gathered over a half century for clues about how to achieve the new reliability goals.
