BAGHDAD - The bodies of more than 20 Iraqi drivers and security forces from a convoy of government trucks carrying sugar were found on Thursday south of Baghdad, police said.

The drivers had all been burned in their vehicles. Police said they believed the convoy was attacked at least two days ago but the bodies left to rot.

“This morning a police patrol was in the Suwairah region and found about 20 vehicles that were taking sugar to Baghdad. They were all burned,” said a police official.

Suwairah is about 60 kilometers (38 miles) south of Baghdad.

As well as the drivers, two policemen and two soldiers who were protecting the convoy were also killed, the official told AFP.

1. on the bright side.....
Well there is no bright side.

The notion that elections were going to make everything peach has once again been proved tragicly false.

Just sad.....

9. Wouldn't It Be Tragic If The Highest Accomplishment In Life Was Being
A cheerleader for Bush and his administration.

The purple finger people at the SOTU address come to mind.

5. A large convoy in a DEMOCRATIC society goes missing for two days?
Edited on Thu Feb-10-05 01:43 PM by oasis
In a true democracy things are not supposed to be so "untidy".

7. A convoy of 20 trucks?
That's a pretty big convoy to stop.

The insurgency aint just a couple of Irabombers out there. And somebody forgot to tell them the elections were a stunning defeat for the terrorists.

12. Yeah, and only two policemen and two soldiers to guard all
Talk about piss-poor defenses, these guys were sitting ducks for their better-organized, better-armed attackers.

13. but but but they were making $2000 a day!
Seems like a bad deal to me. I don't understand why anyone would risk their life simply for the money paid for driving trucks in a war zone.

At least the soldiers were armed.

15. You notice how the right is silent about Iraq?
and Afghanistan? This article was posted at a few conservative sites today with little feedback.

They just want to think about being great liberators and freedom spreaders and they are "safer" for voting for W. They don't want to think about our kids dying and Iraqi innocents dying.

I check www.icasualties.org for the truth. You're right. American media won't report "bad" news.

17. Doesn't say US forces or Iraqi government security forces.
Maybe the insurgents offed some civilians trying to haul goods to the big city. Iraq doesn't have a large sugar industry, I'd wager (although I was surprised to find out that Afghanistan used to), and you need to sweeten your tea with something. If so, chalk up a black mark for the insurgents.

Merchant'll be upset his cargo was trashed.

Or the story's fake. In which case people can continue to think the insurgents are good guys fighting for Truth and Justice.
