Obese teens heading for heart attacks in their 40s, says study
<If you are an overweight teenager, you are heading for heart attacks in your 40s, warn health experts.

A survey carried out by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) found that number of people dying from heart disease was falling, but the current decline could be 'the lull before the storm', as rates of childhood obesity continued to rise, said Prof Peter Weissberg, a cardiologist in Cambridge.

"The current cohort of obese teenagers is heading for heart attacks in their 40s if they get Type 2 diabetes, and many of them will," Ananova quoted Weissberg as saying.

Weissberg said that a large section of the public do not realise what impact living with heart disease could have. They are more concerned about developing cancer or Alzheimer's than heart disease.

"We can be pretty powerless to do anything for them in hospital so we just send them home to slowly die," he said. >

9. And politicians and groups are demonizing science
Nearly 50% of Americans don't believe in evolution. To me that is a sign that they have only a lose grip on biology at best.

Under the current sh*tstorm of lies, the relationship between cause and effect is becoming unrecognizable.

3. Heart attack incidence is HALF what it was in the early 60s--
--and since then people have done nothing but get fatter.

Very early heart disease is genetic, period, like with that Russian figure skater a few years back. No relation whatsoever to weight. Type II puts you at risk past the age of 55, though.

5. that's horrible
36 is far too young. even with weight problems i would think someone at 36 would still have some years to go.

i'm very sorry about your daughter in law.

6. I have a cousin who is 37 and she has become an invalid due to obesity
she broke her hip and her weight prevented the doctors from being able to successfully operate on her.
now she is on disability and she can barely walk and she has continued to gain weight...it is just sad...

Personally I think she needs to seek counseling to help her address depression and her weight ...her mom died at 60 due to similar problems.

12. Not related to obesity
The same happened to a very lean and athletic Russian figureskater at age 28. Genetically very high levels of triglycerides or cholesterol are usually to blame.

This raises the question of exactly how old a fat person has to be in order to die of old age. A friend of mine's great aunt died at 89, and the cause of death was listed as obesity. Say what?

7. I blame inactivity.
Kids don't get out and move around like we used to. Kids just tend to sit in front of the idiot box all day.

My children are not allowed but a little television, and must play outside weather permitting. Ain't no laying around here. If they tell me they are bored i will find them a nice chore list.

We as parents can help this problem. Some parents i know work so much it's hard to monitor their activity level. For them look into some kinds of extra school activities like sports, band, anything that keeps them busy and not sedentary.

8. I blame the processed food
My son is allergic to soybeans and peanuts, so I have to be careful about what I fix for him. Everything has soy in it! My daughter and him are both very thin and fit, even though he is an asthmatic and does not get a lot of exersise because he is afraid of an attack. She is a tumbler and gets a lot of exersise from that. I saw about a study on a French woman that was put on an American diet for a month and she gained weight and felt terrible.

10. The headline should read - Unhealthy Teens Headed for Heart Attacks
Obesity can be a sympton of poor healthy, tho not always, and to continue to stigmatize - especially teenagers over their body size as opposed to teaching how to be healthy will only lead to poorer health without any hope of reducing obesity or improving health.

I wish people could get this.

11. doh...
We all know the rules of life already...you eat a lot, don't do exercise...body converts extra nutrition to fat...which accumulates. Too much fat, and the heart can't keep up with the needed pumping, plus arteries get clogged.

This isn't something new...if fat kids don't get it...and instead spend their time advocating for "fat rights" and to be proud of "being fat"...then they can do that. All power to them...I'm just saying it's gonna be a SHORT political protest...

Best way to keep fit...eat healthy and burn excess calories. It's always been that way...and it will always be that way.
