Rumsfeld: U.S. liberators, not occupiers
http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/asiapcf/02/11/iraq.rumsfeld/

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Donald Rumsfeld has told U.S. troops in Iraq they have shown the world America is a land of liberators not occupiers, and that they can return home once Iraqi security forces are trained and confident.

During a surprise visit to Iraq on Friday, the U.S. defense secretary landed in Mosul before dawn to visit wounded soldiers, meet Iraqi troops and speak to an assembly of soldiers.

He then flew by helicopter to Baghdad where he met Iraq's interim President Ayad Allawi. He was also scheduled to visit U.S. and Iraqi forces.

Before his short speech in Mosul, Rumsfeld spent a few minutes at the bedside of a wounded American soldier who had earned two Purple Heart medals and was scheduled to stay in Iraq another nine months.

Who's he trying to convince? Himself maybe?

1. um...that's delusional
He can legitimately argue about the merits of this war, pro and against...but one thing you can't do is make outlandish, false statements. The world is SOLIDLY against this War...and SOLIDLY has the opinion that the U.S. is occupying them...and that's OUTSIDE the Middle East...inside the Middle East...favorable opinions to the U.S. don't even make it into the double-digits in percentage of population.

So...how is he able to make the claim that the world sees them as liberators? That's false...totally false. Maybe the soldiers see themselves that way...and that's a political stance that we must respect, (though I disagree). But...to state that the world is with the Americans is totally false and out of the bounds of rational debate.

Rumsfeld is delusional...and he's lying.

And be sure to remind those other "evil" empires like Iran and N Korea that if they don't behave themselves, we're gonna come "liberate" them, too!

4. Once the US arrives, it never leaves.
Take for example the two cases most often sited by these idiots, Japan and Germany. 50 years later, we're still there.

6. Yup, they are liberators...can't deny that....
So far they have liberated those Iraqis from their homes, their zoo, their oil, their utilities, and about 8 billion dollars. Now that's liberation!!!! And the rest of the world watched and remembers!!!!!

9. He and Bush need to get together and get their story straight
He knows the troops eat up propaganda as fast as it's dished out, all the more so when it's personally spoon-fed.

10. I can't figure out
why there is nary a mention of the thousands that the US has killed in Iraq. In my mind it is ludicrous to claim that you are freeing people when at the same time you are slaughtering them.

15. Only 2% of Iraqis View the US as Liberators, 97% as OCCUPIERS.

We showed something to the world, alright...but "liberators" and "liberation" most certainly isn't anything to do with it.

16. World Polls; dislike of Bush metamorphosing into dislike of Americans...
Poll: World worries about new Bush term

Survey shows a majority in 16 of 21 nations believe Bush could make world more dangerous.

58 percent of those surveyed said they believed US President George Bush will have a "negative impact on peace and security."
Only 26 percent of those surveyed believed Mr. Bush was a positive force. The situation in Iraq was a key factor in many people's opinion of the US. The Guardian reports that the survey also indicates that, for the first time, the dislike of Mr. Bush is translating into a dislike of Americans in general.

18. We might have been "Liberators" in March of 03'
but not today. Their plan was so screwed up that they've turned liberation into occupation and they have no one to blame but themselves.

Occupation is Liberation!

Gawd, I'm beginning to think Orwell was a time traveler. He just got the year wrong.

The whole idea behind DoubleThink was to induce cognitive dissonance - a state wherein people become confused and very suggestible. Did Atwater and Rove study 1984 as a campaign manual?

31. This look like the face of liberation?

A man and child lie injured in al-Yarmouk hospital after a bomb exploded in Dora, south of Baghdad, Iraq (news - web sites) Friday, Feb. 11, 2005. The blast injured four after children playing in a rubbish dump moved the device. (AP Photo/Asaad Muhsin)

Kids crawling through trash bins (probably not playing but looking for FOOD!) only to set off a explosive device?

We don't have time to be liberators, our troops are too busy dodging bullets to be liberators
