Owner says news service will continue White House coverage

BY KAREN BROOKS

The Dallas Morning News

AUSTIN, Texas - (KRT) - The politically conservative owner of the online Talon News Service said Friday that his site would continue its coverage of the White House despite harsh criticism of one of his reporters.

Bobby Eberle Jr., a Houston activist and engineer who also runs the popular GOPUSA political Web site, told The Dallas Morning News that he plans to replace reporter James Guckert, who went by the name Jeff Gannon.

(snip)

"We haven't stopped our operations at all," Eberle said in a telephone interview from his Houston home. "We've got four new stories up there today."

2. Introducing Mr. Hugh Bris. Come on up and take a bow.
These guys are nuts. Gannon on the air, giving interviews. Now this. They are so filled with their own power, they assume that they are invincible. What a joke.

BTW: Question of the day...every day...how could the WH Press corps sit there and listen to this clown every day without thinking to investigate Talon News? If they had, this would have been on page 1 in 2003 or whenever asked the first question. Inquiring minds want to know!

3. The rest of the press corps have got to be feeling like losers....
...I am guessing we will start to see tougher questions as a result of this whole thing....or not?

16. Yeah, sure they will.
They're gonna pretend he/she's credible just like the last one. America's full of lazy chumps who don't want to be bothered by the truth. Fake press conferences at the WH can't be any different than embedded reporters in Iraq. America doesn't have a discriminating pallet when it comes to "facts". It eats up garbage with the same gusto it eats french toast with.

P.S. This observation hasn't been lost on Karl Rove. It's a take-off of P.T. Barnum's "there's a sucker born every minute."

6. I think they're either on the take or Jeffie Poo has pics.
This one just does not add up! Gannon's such an obvious clown, a crude shill. These guys had to know. Something kept them all quiet. A Gannon - White House manipulation expose would have made any of these reporters bigger than life for a while. Yet they ALL remained quiet. This is one of the major sub stories here: Gannon's mesmerizing effect on his colleagues.

18. No, the real problem is that the WH press whores are losers
Traditionally that is where the social-minded set went to cover DC... no real work, lots of good stories to tell, perks galore, access to people from all over...
a really nice gig, if you can stand the BS you have to do to do it.

Most anyone with any kind of "real" journalism experience can't.

5. Stewart nailed this guy a couple of weeks ago (repeated tonight).
It was the show with Christie Todd Whitman. Stewart opened with a riff on the press (vis-a-vis Armstrong Williams) that included the B/S question from "Gannon" to Bu$h. It was great. Can anyone link it to the video?

20. but is Bobby Eberle, Jr his real name? and more questions

how much is he getting paid and by whom?

who is giving him the scripted questions to ask?

does Scotty-dog McClellan know him? Does bush* know him?

will he have a permanent press-pass or a daily one?

will he be seated in the front row or in the back row or somewhere in the fair-balanced middle?

is he a real reporter/journalist or does he just play one on tv?

does he have any "smut" websites?

did he have anal cysts like rush?

22. If they asked questions about him the White House would have
pulled their credentials. That is the way this White House works. Why do you think the press corps go along with giving Herr Shrub questions in advance? Thats why the press won't ask the tough questions, because they will be snubbed and never be allowed to ask a question again and probably have their credentials pulled. Total control of the press.

23. If they were smart they would turn it around on these m-fer's
and refuse to cover the Whitehouse. what could happen? Scotty and Rove don't get the message out? I can't say that would be a great loss.

25. Not sure that's the real motivation.
The emphasis is on "not sure." It's fair to assume that they knew that Gannon was ringer. If this was all they knew, then why didn't one of them sink the guy by leaking the information to another media outlet. They would have made their point and not risked anything. The broader question is, why didn't a single one of them do the research done on the web to show what a strange character this guy is, e.g., the porn web sites. Now, if that was done and known and suppressed, there is a really instructive and sensational story here.

26. As long as this organization is "treated" by the WH as a legitimate
media organization, why should he stop? The other "alleged" legitimate journalists are keeping mum about this, so why not? The tenticles of this story reach deep inside the WH and the MSM, otherwise it would be a major story all over the TV. I am just hoping that some journalist, who has a clean slate, will have the courage to take this stuff really public.
