Venezuela President's Security Increased After Explosion at Presidential Compound

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - An explosion near the presidential palace early Friday shattered windows and damaged a guard house, but caused no injuries, fire officials said. Venezuela Interior Minister Lucas Rincon said an unknown type of explosive was hurled at the complex from a vehicle. President Hugo Chavez was inside the downtown Caracas Miraflores Presidential Palace at the time, but the incident was not considered serious enough to warrant his evacuation .... Rincon called the attack "a terrorist act" that might be linked to recent telephone threats and intelligence suggesting the existence of a plot to kill Chavez. Authorities later increased security for the president. "Personally, I think they are related," he said. <snip>
