Lawmakers Weigh In On Plan [re: Social Security]
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 05:55 PM by Petrushka
WHEELING -- Other local legislators on Friday offered their own thoughts about the future of Social Security.

"Recently, various proposals have been suggested - by both Democrats and Republicans - about how best to reform Social Security and ensure its solvency for future generations," said U.S. Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio. "I believe that Congress must be very careful and very deliberative in studying the impact of any suggested changes."
<snip>
U.S. Rep. Alan Mollohan, D-W.Va. said the problems with Social Security are not "in need of an immediate answer" and are not an "imminent threat."
"Whatever proposal he comes up with, I think this administration is very pro-privatization," he said. "The beneficiary isn't at the top of list, but with me it is."
<snip>
U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland, D-Ohio, also is among Democrats opposed to Bush's proposals for Social Security.
"I promise you, we are going to fight to keep it from happening," Strickland said. "Social Security is a problem that can be easily fixed. There is no crisis."
<snip>
"If we consider something as simple as rolling back the tax cut for everybody who makes over $300,000 a year, we can extend the life of Social Security for decades."
