Neo-Nazis Aim to Upgrade PR, National Alliance seeks a higher profile
ST. LOUIS — White supremacist groups around the country are moving aggressively to recruit new members by promoting their violent, racist ideologies on billboards, in radio commercials and in leaflets tossed on suburban driveways.

Watching with mounting alarm, civil rights monitors say these tactics stake out a much bolder, more public role for many hate groups, which are trying to shed their image as shadowy extremists and claim more mainstream support.
...
The National Alliance, which calls for ridding the land of minorities, has led the drive to raise the profile of white supremacists.

The local chapter spent $1,500 on MetroLink ads here in St. Louis last month, plastering nearly every commuter train car in the city with a blue-and-white placard declaring "The Future belongs to us!" and listing the group's website and phone number. The same chapter bought airtime on local talk radio last fall, urging whites to unite and fight for the survival of "white America."

"We want to use mainstream advertising to say to the public: We're not a shadowy group. This is what we believe in, and we're proud of it," said chapter leader Aaron Collins. "We're trying to give people courage. We want to show them, if you stand up for what you believe in, you're not going to be crucified."

1. My first thought
was that there are many different "white Americas" - depending on type of job /urban/rural or what have you.

But anyway - I wonder what these people see as "white America".

It sure as heck doesn't seem like it's "threatened" to me.

And it doesn't really seem like it changes that much - but I've been living in/near small towns and in a lot of ways it seems like the 50's never left. (Except women work more... - and people might be more likely to work for Walmart, etc. instead of locally owned businesses).

4. So many ads, so little spray paint
This is the all-American nightmare rearing its ugly head again.

Jim Crow, here we come. Just think of all the lynch mobs that will be appearing in the near future. More and more stuff will come out, with the "Bush mandate" and such.

And we have had only three months and a week since November 2nd. I dread the year 2008...

7. Way overblown
Dont fret. Nearly every one of these "groups" is made up of one malcontent and some newly released jailbirds who were in skinhead gangs in prison. Along with an FBI informant or two. After a few years, some of those members are right back in the slammer for drug manufacturing or general thuggery. Theyre more of a menace to their unfortunate neighbors than to possible racial victims.

The joke at the end about the Aryan Nations was that the informers probably outnumbered the actual racists. It probably wasnt that much of a joke.

Both sides try to stir the pot to raise funds too. But most hate acts are committed by nuts acting alone or a couple of drunks acting on impulse, not planning.

8. Rockerdem, you make a good point...
Most of these groups are just a couple of pissant losers jacking each other off.

Unfortunately, that phrase describes McVeigh and Nichols pretty well too, so we can't be too careful.

10. We have a lot of good people constantly on their cases
There is solid group of private monitors. And, surprisingly, some committed career Bureau pros who have pretty much of an independent hand. Im not an expert, but I follow this when I can.

Morris Dees from the Southern Poverty Law Center ( http://www.splcenter.org/intel/map/hate.jsp ) and plenty of people who have been the victims of violent crimes at the hands of these people would beg to differ.

With the ascension of the boy king, or course, all his cousins and distant relatives will have more power and more air time too. America is becoming just another nazi Germany. Damned shame, it is.

13. My guess is this is all part of *'s "mandate!"
Seems they are feeling just as entitled as right-wing Christians. Both groups have a vision for America, and it is not pretty!
