Chavez, Uribe end dispute

At a meeting on Tuesday – the first between the two presidents since the December arrest of rebel Rodrigo Granda – the two leaders agreed to boost security cooperation and restart stalled trade deals.

“We have turned the page now to settle what was left undone, speed up accords that were delayed or halted and clear up things that were confused,” Chavez said at a press conference with Uribe.

Chavez had recalled his Bogota envoy and frozen trade projects after accusing Colombia of violating Venezuelan sovereignty by paying bounty hunters to kidnap Granda from Caracas.

Although the two countries had agreed last month to end the dispute, face-to-face meeting between Chavez and Uribe was delayed after the Colombian president got an ear infection.

Some 24,000 Cuban Doctors and Health Technicians Work in 67 Countries

Havana, Feb 15 (Prensa Latina) A regiment of 23,909 Cuban doctors and health technicians are working in 67 countries as part of cooperation projects, it was revealed Tuesday at the opening session of the 11th Congress of the National Health Workers Union.

Almost two thirds of them are in Venezuela doing a praiseworthy work, even in outlying areas, spearheading the so-called Barrio Adentro Mission (inside the neighbourhood mission).

The gathering is dealing with the interests and concerns of the almost 365,000 Health Union members. One of its six commissions is looking into issues concerning doctors and health workers in international missions.

One of the key items on discussion is special care to families of those working abroad, as well as living and working conditions of those in far-flung areas.
