Maine´s governor breaks three ribs after slipping on ice
AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. John Baldacci broke three ribs when he slipped on ice outside his home Wednesday, a year after breaking a rib in a car accident, a spokesman said.

Baldacci was walking down the back steps at the governor´s mansion to pick up the morning newspapers when he fell, spokesman Lynn Kippax said.

He was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, where X-rays confirmed his injuries, Kippax said.

Baldacci, 50, later returned to the Blaine House, where maintenance workers were busy removing the ice. It formed overnight across much of the state after melting snow from last week´s storm froze.

Last week's storm??? It snowed and rained overnight. Maybe that's what froze! Poor reporting.

In any case, speedy recovery, John. Broken ribs - as he knows - can be very painful.

1. this guy should think about moving to a warmer climate
He might not be cut out for Maine.

Last February, Baldacci suffered a concussion, a broken rib and bruises when the sport utility vehicle he was riding in rolled into a ditch off an icy highway. The Democratic chief executive, who was elected to a four-year term in 2002 and is planning to seek re-election, returned to work the following morning, holding a budget meeting and using a telephone hookup to endorse Sen. John Kerry for his party´s presidential nomination.

6. He's definitely from Maine.. but from Bangor, not Lewiston.

I know his family owns a restaurant called Mama Baldacci's in Bangor. He grew up in the Bangor area and went to University of Maine in Orono (so did my husband and I).

I'm living in a much warmer climate and I want to move back to Maine so badly. It's such a great place to live.

Lewiston and Auburn suck, btw. My husband lived there. That area is like the ghetto of Maine. The Bangor area is much nicer.

7. Just like Mary Baker Eddy.
She slipped on some ice, and then founded the Christian Science Church.

11. Physical Bruises To Match Political Ones
This is one guv who really tries to serve his constituents, the people of Maine. He's made a few mistakes but on the whole, has done very, very well for a freshman!

Speedy recovery!
