Wife of Enron finance chief seeking early release

http://www.mysanantonio.com/sharedcontent/APStories/stories/D889QOM00.html

The lawyer representing the wife of former Enron finance chief Andrew Fastow has asked a judge to let her out of prison before the end of her yearlong sentence on a tax crime.

She is serving time alongside accused drug runners in the federal detention center in downtown Houston, essentially a federal jail that houses male and female inmates serving time and those facing trial. Hittner declined to recommend that the Federal Bureau of Prisons place her at a minimum-security prison camp in Bryan, about 90 miles northwest of Houston.

"She has now spent almost seven months under fluorescent lights, not allowed outside for fresh air even for recreation, in overcrowded conditions and without the basic programs offered by a normal institution," DeGeurin said in the filing, noting that cells designed for two women now house a third on a cot to handle overflow.

"She has been serving hard time in the literal sense and without complaint," DeGeurin said.

4.  She needs to take a lesson from Martha...
we haven't heard HER whining and she really had no business being sent to prison...THIS lady needs to STFU...and be happy that at least she wasn't "suicided" like some of the other Enron scandal people.

2. Cry me a river, Leah
Your family has money, there was no reason at all you had to get wrapped up in this garbage. But you did, and you're paying the price.

Sheesh, reminds me of that Chapelle skit where the white collar criminals get hard time, and the "racially profiled" criminal gets the cushy deal. Sounds like Leah is just where she needs to be.

3. "without complaint"???!!!
What would you call this?

Ohmygawd! Fluorescent lights just make your complexion look ghastly, and you just KNOW those drug runner types are snippy little misses who don't know their places, right?

Poor thing...I don't think she should serve one day past the day that the last person she helped defraud dies from natural causes, probly in about oh say, 60 years........

Meanwhile, to quote someone else here in response to her and her lawyer: "Shut up, shut up, just shut up!"

LMFAO

8. Should have plea-bargained a 13-month sentence, stupid!
Sentences of a year or less are served in the jail. Over a year goes to the prison system. She could have served softer time at Bryan. Tough fucking luck. Deal with it.

9. Boo-Hoo
She participated in the fraud by her silence and massive consumption of the goodies it brought her.. I have no fear that there are millions safely stashed offshore waiting for her when she gets out.. I can see all the Enronistas retiring to the Caymans, living their jetset lives in luxury :puke:

What sort of a southern fried bitch this one must have been. I say she should have gotten life. I heard that they were in the process of building some kind of palace in Houston before this happened and the construction all of a sudden was brought to an abrupt halt.

17. She was a Weingarten...
A descendant of a Polish grocer who did well in Texas. In my youth, Weingarten's was the big local grocery chain. The company dumped the stores some time ago & now deals in real estate.

The Fastows were patrons of the arts & contributed to local institutions such as the Holocaust Museum. (Contributing other people's money, apparently.) They were building a big house in River Oaks but sold it; and a "big house" in River Oaks might well be considered a palace elsewhere.

she should be doing a lot more time than she got. She caused so much tragedy to so many hard working people that she should be ashamed to show her self in public.

15. This guy does not get it does he
He is complaining because some rich bitch is not getting treated like a princess. She did not pay her taxes and is now paying a reasonable penalty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"She has now spent almost seven months under fluorescent lights, not allowed outside for fresh air even for recreation, in overcrowded conditions and without the basic programs offered by a normal institution,"

What he really does not understand is that these are the BASIC programs offered by institutions. A floor to sleep on and a fluorescent light. I wonder if anybody asked this guy if he could name a prison that was not overcrowded? Better yet, has anybody asked this guy why this is the type of prison that you go to if you steal $3,000 worth of television sets. And if your husband steals $13 billion from customers and you are guilty of not paying your taxes on his cut of this why you go to the prison uptown that has gardening classes offered after your scheduled library time?

20. She got a sweetheart deal to begin with......
as part of hubbies bargining to testify. They have kids and they wanted at least one parent available to care for them. But if they were black (hispanic or poor) and she had handled hubbies money from the 7-11 holdup, they'd have both been locked up, kids or no. I don't see them releasing Martha earlier so she should suck it up and do her time. I don't think that will fly, too many people were hurt by Enron here in Houston.
