Police officer arrested for rape
http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=75630

St. Paul Police have arrested a police officer for allegedly raping a woman last Friday.

Police say 28-year-old David Michael Hansen of the Minneapolis Police Department was arrested on probable cause of kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct.

According to police, last Friday afternoon a 27-year-old woman was leaving the Lifetime Fitness Center on Ford Parkway when she was approached by a man she’d seen in the club. He asked her for a ride to his car and she agreed. When he got into her car, he told her he had a gun and directed her to drive to her home. Once there, he took her inside where he allegedly raped her and then fled on foot.

Police believe that man was Hansen. They say the investigation continues, but based on leads and investigative work, they are confident the rapist has been caught.

Very scary!

3. How horrible for her.
I hope they put him away for a long time. Who knows what other intimidation and crimes he may have committed during his employ?

4. No kidding
The Minneapolis police have gotten away with a lot of things over the years. Nothing like a badge to keep from getting prosecuted.

11. We entrust the police with
a lot of power. When they break that trust they deserve special treatment. If found guilty I think life plus a day would be a just sentence for this animal.

6. Regrettably, the power of a badge attracts a lot of psychos.
Inside a police uniform is the only place that the kind of person who tazers children can run rampant without fear of retribution. They can do as they please while being protected by their position and the police officers' code of silence: no matter what another officer does, you have to stand by them. It's a problem that speaks to a need for better psych evaluations for police, and an elimination of the 'us versus them' mentality. Unfortunately, the latter is almost impossible to do, since if someone blows the whistle on inappropriate conduct, the whistleblower is targeted by the other assholes who don't want to work with someone who might tell the truth about them too.

7. Cops rape sexworkers all the time.
But nobody seems to ever care about that.

10. I come from a family of police officers...
...and you're spot-on correct! There's two reasons why one becomes a law enforcement officer - 1) civil service benefits and 2) for the power trip. The majority seem to be in it for number two...

12. I was a Military Policeman for 3 years (plainclothes for 2)
upon leaving the Army I could have worked for several PD's or even some Federal Agency's. I was attracted by your item 1 "civil service benefits" but recognized some of #2 "the need/desire to control others" and was repulsed by the idea, I chose to remain a civilian. I have had a successful career in sales (lol maybe I do have control issues) and I'm sure I'm a better person for it.

13. Why
am I not surprised? None of the police officers in my area that I have met even believe in rape. They spend most of their time chasing 15 year old girls around.
