Company pulls out of student tracking program (blames media attention)

http://whnt.com/Global/story.asp?S=2960455

SUTTER, Calif. A California grade school has ended the use of radio frequency identification badges to track students. The program was launched last month at Brittan Elementary School in Sutter.

School officials say the company that developed the technology has canceled the agreement to provide the badges.

InCom Corporation cited concerns about vandalism and intense media attention as reasons for withdrawing from the project.

The school started the program without any input from parents. The principal says says the badges would have simplified attendance-taking.
