Legislator introduces bill to castrate some sex offenders
"Drug-induced castration should be among the punishments for sex offenders who victimize children, a state legislator said Thursday.

Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Delano, proposed allowing judges to require pedophiles to take sex-drive-suppressing drugs as part of their sentences in cases where the crime was extremely cruel, the victim was physically injured or the perpetrator had previous offenses. Emmer also would let pedophiles volunteer for physical castration on the operating table."

"Nine states, including Wisconsin, have chemical castration laws for some sex offenders. Chemical castration involves men taking female hormone drugs to suppress the sex drive. Offenders in Texas, California and Florida can opt for surgical removal of the testes instead."

16. do you believe child molestation is a physical problem and not mental?
The molesters will still carry the urges after they are casterated. Then they will be raping people with things like barbie dolls - which offenders have been known to use before. Well it be any better"

Do you really want to live in a society whos courts are based on retribution?

31. Yes, yes,
and meanwhile, two snotty little highschool tarts are plotting the downfall of the popular jock for snubbing them each on seperate dates.

"Hey, did you hear- if we both nail him in court, he'll never get to have kids of his own. We can really get him back that way!"

"Ooooh, YEAH- great idea! So, how do we do it?"

And on and on. And, if you don't think there's a bit of truth in that, well.... you've been out of high school too long. ;)

4. sounds a bit extreme at first thought...
But on second thought for sex offenders with multiple serious offenses, it sounds fine to me. Hell, take the drugs away and hack it off so the ped's can know some of the pain their victims will deal with for life.

7. The unfortunate problem is that
chemical castration does not always work - proscribing it as mandatory rather than one part of the offender's treatment and punishment will not solve the problem of recidivism. Should it not suppress desire but does suppress the mechanics of erection, where does that leave the pederast? I don't like the result of that equation.

Look, I am a mother and I know what I would do were my child a victim of this, but we can't let revulsion do the thinking here. Science and the principles of justice have to be in charge.

8. Read the article, folks.
It's chemical castration. It's reversable. It also requires ongoing "treatments."

I think it's bullshit myself. What, the party of personal responsibility blames a brain chemical when sickos molest children? What's next, a twinkie defense?

Put the scum in jail, where they'll get their punishment. I personally would not trust a shot in a sicko rapist man's arm to protect my kids.

9. I agree...
They don't need a sex drive to inflict harm on someone.

On the other hand, maybe this is precisely what's needed to convince people once and for all that rape isn't about sex as much as it's about violence and anger.

There's still that element of society (some of them are on the bench)that seems to feel that women "ask for it" by dressing provocatively.

11. I agree
and Lol! I got a laugh out of your "twinkie defense" That's perfect Lol!!!

I don't really trust a female birth control drug to stop these sick fucks.

As a mother myself, I say neuter the bastards, whack it all off.

Some say this is cruel and unusual punishment? But what do we do to a pet dog that's aggressive sexually and otherwise, mounting our leg constantly, wandering, etc. etc. and fighting with other dogs?

We neuter them. No, not torture them in pain, we humanely anesthetize them and remove it.

Cruel and unusual??? Give me a fucking break!:eyes:

What's cruel and unusual is what the pedophiles do to kids!

Feel some sympathy for the the kids, not the perpetrators!!!

13. I'm a liberal, but
I believe that is the best thing you could do with child molesters and rapists. Fuck the "drug induced" part, just cut it off and if it's a woman drug induce her or give her a hysterectomy and take everything she doesn't need with it.

I think if we really started "punishing" these people who continually break the law the crime rate would definitely decrease.

I say we should also kill anyone who kills another person that isn't in self defense. If there's eyewitnesses and no doubt, forget the judge and jury, just hang them!

and are raped every day by "bubba"...much better punishment for child molesters. i've heard that they don't last long in jails, a few months at most. they're not popular.

22. Agreed, put them away......
Child molesters continue to molest children their entire lives. I don't know what causes them to do it, but they do.

Put them away where they have no access to children.

24. Locking them up is the only way to be safe
Preferential pedophiles, serial rapists, and serial killers will *never* be safe to allow free among us. Their crimes aren't motivated by hormones; no current psychological or medical treatment has been shown to stop them. At best, they can be controlled--taught to stay out of places where their preferred victims are and to interrupt the urge to offend before they harm anyone. But the offender himself (and it's almost always male, and nobody's sure why yet) has to be highly motivated, and most aren't.

I think the only way to keep them from re-offending is lifetime confinement. And as much as I'd like to see them suffer the same way their victims did, I recognize that to inflict death or lifelong suffering on them is to stain my *own* conscience, so they should be kept as humanely as possible (i.e., we should not allow prison rape--it demeans our society that we do) while we wait for someone, somewhere, to figure out how to cure them.

38. it's not an official part.
but it happens. it doesn't really make me happy that it happens, but it seems like it's gonna happen nonetheless. i don't blame prison guards for not being on top of everything all the time, they're just trying to survive.

besides, it's not the rape that gets child molestors in prison. sooner or later they're murdered, unless they can keep a low profile. they're just not real popular.

15. and if he's actually inocent.. out of luck.
it's cruel and unusual punnishment. Locking them up is enough.

face it our court system has degraded to existing for retribution. That's a scary place to have reached.

Our leaders are the scariest we've had in history. They are about hate and retribution and that's what we see reflected in their laws and the direction our courts go.

Doestoyevsky said you can tell how advanced a society is by their prisons. Well, here you go.

23. Chemical castration doesn't work
Unfortunately, even if the sex drive is reduced or eliminated, the psychological defects that the offenders have are still present. Sex crimes are often about anger and power, and a chemically castrated offender can still penetrate with fingers or objects.

33. Chemical castration is simply injections of depo provera...
It lowers aggression, obsessive sexual and aggressive thoughts as well as sex drive. It DOES WORK. It is reversible and it does not affect a males sexuality once the doses wear off. The shots would be administered as part of a probation /parole.

It covers the mental drive, the physical drive. It also covers an error in that it can be overturned.

27. back in the 80s (I think), there were several cases of perported . . .
molestation at child care facilities that later proved to be pure bullshit . . . now suppose those initially convicted had been chemically castrated, only later to be found completely innocent . . . when punishments are irreversible (like the death penalty, or chemical castration), you better damn well be sure the perp actually did the crime . . . and in recent years, there have been scores, if not hundreds, of convictions that have been overturned by DNA evidence and changes in testimony by accusers . . . this is a very dangerous course on which to embark, imo . . .

30. What do you do
when a person that molested/raped a child goes to court, and then gets set free? Even when there is physical evidence i.e. proof???

Or what if it doesn't even go to court in the first place because the cops don't believe it? They fuck up the evidence because they don't believe it to begin with? And you know for sure it did happen.

And this occurs more times then anyone might be aware of, especially in the cases of incest.

What if it's your own child. Then what do you do???

32. Chemical castration SIGNIFICANTLY lowers aggression,fantasies...
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 02:45 AM by mordarlar
sex drive, obsessive sexual thoughts. These things are the main driving forces behind MOST sexual assault cases. It lowers testosterone more than a physical castration and is reversible (in case an error is made).

I see on average something like two pedophile cases a day lately. Something has to be done. This in my opinion is the most humane and affective solution i have heard yet.

The offender is given injections of Depo Provera. They must be repeated periodically or they wear off.
