Third N.C.-Based Soldier Dies After Exhibiting Flu-Like Symptoms
Sgt. Clay Garton Reportedly Dies From Infection

POSTED: 6:49 pm EST February 17, 2005

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The mysterious death of a third soldier with North Carolina ties is raising questions. All three died from flu-like symptoms after returning from overseas deployments.

(snip)

According to a preliminary autopsy report, Garton's liver and spleen were swollen. His wife said doctors told her he died from infection.

It is the third recent example of soldiers dying after exhibiting flu-like symptoms. Capt. Gilbert Munoz was a special forces soldier at Fort Bragg who was deployed to the Middle East. After he got back, he died from a bacterial infection.

(snip)

(another case)
"Chris was admitted with flu-like symptoms. Whatever it was, it shut all of his organs down -- shut them all down -- and I want to know what happened," she said.

1. And Like Schultz, The Army "Knows Nothing"
Form the article:
WRAL called Fort Bragg, the Department of the Army and some congressional offices. At this point, it does not appear that anyone is investigating the deaths or trying to determine if there is a common cause.

sheesh

2. Ummm - maybe all that Depleted Uranium they are spreading around
.
.
.

over there, eh? :freak:

Radiation can really mess up your system I hear, and also, I have already read where US MILITARY doctors have been warning the WH that radiation poisoning is killing far more American GI's than they will admit

Mysterious my ass

The WH will accept any explanation, as long as is does NOT mention Depleted Uranium.

Birth defects in GI's spouses after their return from Gulf War 1 skyrocketed, just as the birth defects in Iraqis increased over 400% after GW1

and gee - BOTH groups were exposed to Depleted Uranium

but that's just a coincidence, right?

Right :eyes:

7. yup
as long as they don't put the D.U. in an envelope and mail it via USPS, not a problem.

as in (antrhax)
Of course they never figured that one out either.

Life is full of mysteries.
Like how we've survived this long.

17. According to his family, DU may be a factor
"Garton's family has questions, too. His wife said while Garton was in Iraq, he treated someone exposed to depleted uranium. Garton's father wonders if that had something to do with his death."

5. Health effects of uranium exposure
The health effects depend on the quantity of uranium oxide
dust inhaled or ingested, frequency, and duration of exposure.
A high initial dose can cause acute respiratory failure
and poisoning, leading to death within a few days.
Smaller doses cause hair loss, reduced regeneration of
skin and nails, physical weakness, fatigue, FLU-like
symptoms, diarrhea, and immune and peripheral
nervous system damage manifested up to a few months
after the initial
exposure.

Radiation at DU sites is measured with the Geiger counter, which is insensitive to a-particles.

10. Last night Oz tv had a very interesting Doco on DU
Called The Doctor,Depleted uranium and the dying children. Some interesting info and some really horrible scenes of incredibly disfigured children not only in Iraq but also in Bosnia,Serbia UK and US. All these children and babies had in common was incredibly rare genetic disorders that lead to disfigurement and DU exposure of at least one of their parents.
The team of researchers lead by a German doctor spent 2 weeks in Iraq collecting soil samples, dust samples, water samples, blood samples and taking geiger counter readings all across Iraq from Basra to Baghdad. What they found was DU everywhere and more worringly some samples came up positive for plutonium!!!
Depleted uranium ammunition was first used in gulf war 1. Basra has a huge amount of likely DU victims. It was interesting that the doctors at Basra's hospitals were saying that they expect to see the same problems emerging in the next couple of years in Baghdad with new born children since Baghdad became a dumping ground for DU munitions in gulf war 2 only.
The US military likes DU munitions because uranium is the hardest metal known to man and literally plows through tank armour etc etc. Some good scenes in this doco of DU munitions in action both in Iraq and Bosnia/Kosovo/Serbia. The DU munition ignites and burns at extremely high temperatures and most people inside an armoured vehicle hit by one of these munitions are vaporised basically. Very effective "killing" munition. However the DU is often broken down into fine dust that lies around on the ground and gets picked up by winds etc etc and blown around all over the place. DU can enter peoples bodies through open wounds or through breathing and ingestion of contaminated food or water. It is highly toxic to the body and basically breaks down the human immune system, in some cases quickly and others less quickly. It also really really mucks up peoples chromosomes over time.
More sinisterly than the US military's desire to use these type of weapons because of their effectiveness in the battlefield was the issue of DU munitions being a great way of "getting rid" of US waste nuclear material produced in the US by all those privately owned nuclear plants. Suddenly these companies have an answer to getting rid of it offshore and get money for it. A cozy relationship between the US military and US nuclear power industry has been developing around these weapons.
It also appears that Plutonium may well aslo have been used in several munitions used in Gulf War 2. It's arguably the most toxic substance known to humans.
Very similiar results were found in Bosnia/Kosovo/Serbia as well. However the Serbians have taken DU contamination very seriously compared to the Iraqi's and have had military units cleaning up as much contamination as possible over the last several years in an effort to try and contain the serious health problems that DU appears to be causing.
The results from the samples collected were very bad. 40% of the blood samples taken in Iraq had DU levels more than 10 times WHO acceptable levels. The researchers had to collect their samples on the quite in Iraq and to avoid suspicion from the US military samples were collected without the use of protective gear which might have alerted the US military to what they were actually in Iraq for. As a consequence, all the researchers recorded elevated levels of DU in their bloodstreams when they returned to Germany. They had only been in Iraq for 2 weeks although they did spend most of the time in DU "hot spots". There were several surreal scenes where Iraqi kids would be playing on the shells of destroyed tanks, which seem to be everywhere in Iraq, and one of the researchers in the doco would walk up to it with a geiger counter and the reading would literally go off the chart and an alarm would come on telling the researcher to exit the area as quickly as possible. The kids kept playing on the tank off course.
Another interesting fact that emerged was the types of US and UK soldiers who have likely been seriously contaminated by DU. A large number of mechanics who spent their time crawling around vehicles and engineering type soldiers who spent a lot of time removing the hulks of vehicles that had taken DU ammunition hits. Some of these people were very ill and quite a lot had died. Another area affected was logistical support roles, particularly those roles that handled DU artillery shells. A lot of these soldiers had had quite severe damage done to their chromosomes. In fact one British soldier who had been exposed to DU munitions fairly regularly during Gulf War 1 had had every single chromosome split in 2. In fact the genetic researcher in the doco reckoned that he could tell quite easily if a sample had come from someone exposed to DU munitions, by what he called "The Bizzare" ways that the chromosomes had been affected. Bizzare chromosomes - Bizzare offspring! and boy was there some bizzare children getting born in Iraq and Bosnia/Kosovo/Serbia in this doco, although the absence of eyes altogether was quite common.
Returning soldiers from Iraq should definately get themselves tested for DU contamination and probably get their chromosomes checked as well, if they find that they have been contaminated.

I've not seen one.
Good thing we got them all.

The absence of EYES?

Now I know. These bastards don't intend to end the world, as their fringe religious right hopes.
They just want to alter it beyond recognition.

I don't know how people can go on about business as usual while the shit hits the fan. Oh well.

18. OMG... Check out this Soldier's story from TX!
Local Soldier Battles Mysterious Disease

http://www.kcbd.com/Global/story.asp?S=2960728&nav=CcXGWU9V

When he realized his symptoms were serious, he contacted the Army who then sent him to their doctor. The diagnosis was Spinocerebellar Ataxia, a rare genetic disease that according to Keith, has only been recorded in medical history 21 times.

According to the local American Legion, the Army cannot pay for benefits for a pre-existing condition, and that's exactly what Keith was told.

"The Army allowed me one consult, and they decided I wouldn't get any benefits or disability whatsoever," said Huffaker.

But Keith says his family doesn't have a history of the rare disease and they think something else might've made him sick. Now, they want a second opinion.

"I'm not sure what happened, could've picked up an infectious disease, could've come from blood, Uranium, you name it I was in the middle of it," remarked Huffaker.
