Group Cites Sex Crimes Against U.S. Troops

A support group for victims said U.S. service members have reported 307 sexual assaults that allegedly took place while they were stationed in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan or Bahrain.

A statement from the Connecticut-based Miles Foundation, which first raised concerns about assaults on women serving in Iraq and Kuwait last year, said the alleged assailants included other members of the military, allies and foreigners. Most of the victims were women. snip

In January, Pentagon officials said the military will begin providing confidentiality to alleged sexual assault victims in the immediate period after an attack, in a policy change designed to persuade more people to come forward.

In a report last May, the Pentagon acknowledged problems in preventing, treating and investigating sexual assaults on military personnel. The task force that wrote the report recommended a series of primarily administrative changes aimed at increasing awareness throughout the ranks of how to respond, both medically and judicially, when a woman in uniform reports being assaulted.

1. It's just a bit of BLUE ON BLUE! Letting off steam! What's a little RAPE
between soldiers!

They're away from home, not getting their usual amount of between-the-sheets. Damn libruls, always blaming the poor soldiers who are only raping for our freedoms!

Women were just made by God to be screwed and have babies, anyways!

3. Sex Assaults on Military Members Reported
http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0205/208009.html

Washington (AP) - A victims support group said members of the military have reported 307 sexual assaults that took place while they were stationed in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan or Bahrain.

A statement from the Connecticut-based Miles Foundation, which first raised concerns about assaults on women serving in Iraq and Kuwait last year, said the alleged assailants included other members of the military, allies and foreigners. Most of the victims were women.

About one-third of the cases reported to the Miles Foundation also have been reported to military officials, the statement said.

Thirty-nine women have reported being assaulted while preparing to go overseas, the foundation said.

4. Par for the course

There were tons of stories of rapes occuring everywhere in the world our military went during the 90's. I thought it was odd then. Now I kind of look at it like this. Of course, you are going to have some who are going to let the power trip of the "angry white male" type being president go to their head and act like assholes. I wish they wouldn't though.

5. Rape
occurs because rapists don't view their victims as people, but as objects. Rape is a power trip-it shows you have power and control. The objectification of people, power and control are the ways some people in a combat situation cope psychologically. That it is not a good coping strategy is obvious. Perhaps a better thing to happen is not to participate in wars.
