Sex for secrets

By SIMON BENSON AND IAN McPHEDERAN

February 19, 2005

AN Israeli spy was kicked out of Australia for trying to seduce female spies, diplomats and defence specialists employed by some of the most sensitive national security agencies, security sources said yesterday.

Amir Laty, expelled on December 28, even targeted journalists in the hope of cultivating young women with access to government secrets.
"It was an attempt at high-level espionage,'' a national security source said.

Apart from Laty's friendship with Attorney-General Philip Ruddock's 26-year-old daughter Caitlin, he is also believed to have had liaisons with a woman from the Defence Intelligence Organisation and another from the Prime Minister and Cabinet Office's international policy unit

2. Nothing New Under the Sun
Remember Mata Hari? And the Marines guarding the US Embassy in Moscow in the '80s? Females were seducing the Marine guards & extracting all sorts of info in exchange for sex.

9. They Spy on US, for Cry Eye!
Recall Jonathan Jay Pollard? They're so insecure that they feel the need to spy on their greatest benefactor & ally. The US spies back.

15. A lot of countries spy on their "friends"
From the time of de Gaulle's visit to Montreal (1968?) until well into the Carter Administration, the US was reported to be spying on Parti Quebecois -- that was the word all along the St. Lawrence Valley.

10. How would you know if your ally is your ally without spying on an ally?
That sounds weird but I am sure that it is true

7. That is why the gannon pass is so disturbing.
No security clearance required for a male whore, just double check those promiscuous females, they could be up to something.

13. Or that woman in California a couple of years back.
Can't remember her name... Chinese national, major Republican fundraiser, who was photocopying secret documents taken from the briefcases of her various FBI boyfriends while they were sleeping after sex.

16. And when the sex-for-Marine-guards scandal broke, the Soviet Press Sec'y
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 04:39 PM by Vitruvius
said "Maybe now the Americans will stop looking for the Reds under the bed." Heh.

Actually, that was a very clever operation on the part of the Soviets -- because the U.S. gov't blamed some low-level Marine guards for the loss of secrets that had actually been passed over by the well-connected preppy traitor Aldrich Ames. Which enabled Ames to continue betraying his country for several years longer.

14. Bingo.
Though realism might be lacking in the rest of the Bond universe, the tactics for enticing information out of someone weren't made out of whole cloth.

CANBERRA watering hole B-Bar, in downtown trendy Kingston, has a fantastic cocktail list.

But it is unlikely accused Israeli spy Amir Laty ever tried one of its exotic concoctions.

Instead, the nondescript senior consul was well known as the one who stayed sober while everyone around him let their hair down and their inhibitions slip.

12. Ya he looks like he definitely wasn't a James Bond but
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 12:33 PM by lovuian
his technique was familiar... It really makes you wonder who Gannon hanged out with after the press conferences and who he went drinking with...

and I'm interested in this paragraph from the above article

"We have information that there was a passport counterfeiting operation headquartered in Sydney run by Mossad," Mr Kazak said

and yes if this would have been Iran it would have been all over the newspapers!!!
