Agents search home of bin Laden bounty hunter
12:38 PM CST on Friday, February 18, 2005

By KARIN KELLY / WFAA-TV

SANSOM PARK — Federal agents searched the home of a Tarrant County man after he told authorities he was on his way to Syria to look for international terrorist Osama Bin Laden.

Matt Mihsen of Sansom Park was arrested Tuesday in Detroit, a stopover on his way to the Middle East. Mihsen, a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in Syria, was charged with making false statements to Customs and Border Protection officers at the Detroit airport.

A search of his luggage turned up almost $14,000 in cash along with 40 rounds of ammunition, pepper spray, three Geiger counters and a stun gun.

"This morning we wake up to about 30 FBI agents next door," said Samantha Daniels, Mihsen's Sansom Park neighbor. She said she told investigators Mihsen was very rarely at home, but that he was friendly.

-----------

Just saw this on the news. Very strange. Did he think nobody at the airport would notice all that stuff?

4. So what kind of freakin' game is this???
They put a bounty on OBL... they increase the bounty on OBL... someone (a US citizen) who thinks he can do the job heads out to do it.. and gets popped for it???

If the seized items were in his checked baggage, WTF is the problem?

I suppose only some Pakistani "peasant" will be "allowed" to find OBL, when and if that ever happens.

7. told authorities he was on his way to Syria?
i can just imagine the syrian border guards:
"what is your purpose for visiting syria, business?pleasure?"
bountyhunter:
"i have come to capture bin-laden!"
*zaps guard with taser*
"where is bin-laden!!!"

i'm sure future historians would giggle over their tea and biscuits while discussing how WWIII started...

12. For starters....
...you're not allowed to leave the country with over $10,000 in cash and undeclared ammunition.

8. How did he get to Detroit without being searched?
That excerpt doesn't say if he flew from Texas to Detroit. If he did, how did all that stuff get past the searchers in Dallas???

9. Good question.
Here's a couple paragraphs from a different report.

A federal criminal complaint said Matt Mihsen, 47, of Ft. Worth boarded a Northwest flight in Dallas on Tuesday en route to Detroit, the Netherlands and Syria. Mihsen, a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in Syria, was questioned in Detroit by Customs and Border Protection officers.

After denying carrying a large sum of cash, agents checked him and found $13,756, according to a court affidavit filed by Cory Howe, a Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent. Agents checked Mihsen's luggage and found a stun gun, 40 rounds of ammunition, pepper spray, a bulletproof vest and three Geiger counters, the affidavit said.

What's next? We sick Ronald McDonald on Saudi Arabia? That's the plan? That's the best the world's most powerful government can do? Let's send over the boy scouts, too. How about the Boise Idaho Women's Auxillary?
