Fire Risk on Xbox Game Consoles
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 02:41 PM by physioex
http://www.technewsworld.com/story/news/40734.html

In 30 cases worldwide the failure has caused minor injury or damage to property. Seven customers reported sustaining minor burns on their hand. Microsoft has advised owners to turn their machine off when not in use.

If you own one of these things, please get a new power cord and turn the machine off when not in use.

What a surprise, first they crash now they burn......

1. hrmm...
my xbox almost never crashes. I've had a few glitches in games that caused them to hang, but it's pretty rare.

Keep in mind that the odds of this problem occurring in one of the "bad" cords is 1 in 10,000.

2. I wasn't talking about the Xbox in reference to crashing......

One in 10,000 so if every DU'er owned one that would mean six fires..... Not good odds if you ask me.

11. But we mustn't have widely available class action suits or
companies might find they really need to make quality goods in the first place.

Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 03:00 PM by Maine-ah
so, tried to order it, and they say my x box is not affected, but in the article http://www.technewsworld.com/story/40718.html the say: The affected game consoles were made before January 12, 2004, except in continental Europe, where the cutoff date is October 23. 2003. (mine was made 11-25-2003.)

10. I'd call them back, quote the info in the article, and if they
give you the same song and dance, ask to speak with their supervisor.

15. I think the article is wrong on the dates this is what
I found under FAQS at the ordering site www.xbox.com that if your xbox was made before Oct. 25, 2003 then you need a new cord. So, just check the backside of your xbox and with the serial number you will find a manufacture date.

16. Thanks for posting this.
You can order a new cord online if you have your serial number and manufacture date handy (they are both printed on the bottom of the xbox).
