Charles Greene, an American adviser to Iraqi security forces who was profiled in a front-page article in Wednesday's Tribune, will be returning to his home base in Ft. Benning, Ga., to recuperate at a hospital from wounds suffered in a sniper attack, his wife said.
Greene, 42, was shot in the face by a sniper Sunday while participating in an Iraqi army search for insurgents and weapons stashes in Mosul.
The wound destroyed an eardrum and ear canal, taking away his hearing on one side, said his wife, Cynthia Greene.

Greene is a 22-year Army veteran who rose from the enlisted ranks. He has seven children.
His wife said it "will help tremendously to have him here so they can all go see Daddy."
