http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000080&sid=aW2udKMTYviw&refer=asiaFeb. 21 (Bloomberg) -- China criticized a joint statement by the U.S. and Japan declaring the peaceful resolution of China's dispute with Taiwan as a strategic objective.
``Irresponsible remarks'' related to China's national security are ``untenable,'' Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said in a statement posted on the ministry's Web site last night. The Chinese government opposes the U.S.-Japanese statement as an infringement of the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the statement said.
Japanese Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura and Defense Minister Yoshinori Ohno issued a statement with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on Feb. 19 after the four met in Washington. The declaration listed ``the peaceful resolution of issues concerning the Taiwan Strait'' among a series of ``common strategic objectives'' for the region.
