Report: U.S. in Secret Talks with Iraqi Insurgents
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. diplomats and intelligence officers are conducting secret talks with Iraq's Sunni insurgents on ways to end fighting there, Time magazine reported on Sunday, citing Pentagon and other sources.
The Bush administration has said it would not negotiate with Iraqi fighters and there is no authorized dialogue but the U.S. is having "back-channel" communications with certain insurgents, unidentified Washington and Iraqi sources told the magazine.

The magazine cited a secret meeting between two members of the U.S. military and an Iraqi negotiator, a middle-aged former member of Saddam Hussein's regime and the senior representative of what he called the nationalist insurgency.

A U.S. officer tried to get names of other insurgent leaders while the Iraqi complained the new Shi'ite-dominated government was being controlled by Iran, according to an account of the meeting provided by the Iraqi negotiator.

"We are ready to work with you," the Iraqi negotiator said, according to Time.

1. Bush = Appeasement
Neville Chamberlain lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
That's what we would hear if a Dem president did this.

2. Show.
They are doing this to feign progress. Nothing is going to come out of "secretly" talking with insurgent leaders. But then again, its the thought that counts.

3. The sordid game
apparently now is to undermine the Sunni "democratic" government especially to weaken the Shia about to be attacked in Iran. This sort of juggling will hopefully, in Bushco terms, get the locals gamed against each other while the goods get looted out the back door, LAT. American style.

Some covert operation. Nothing can embarrass or stop the US already accused of ARMING Sunni groups to hold the Shia in check and hopefully get them redirected from killing US soldiers.

It doesn't get crazier than this. Or does it?

Operation Impunity continues.

4. It's too bad
They only took this long to work towards agreements and not before those poor people lost their lives. Bush sickens me, to say we don't negotiate with terrorists when lives are at stake, only to do it when his publicity is at stake later.

5. The Bush Junta needed the Iraqi election first so they..
could make their deals. They know now that they screwed up in many ways so they are correcting the screwups. Politics is a behind the scene's game. The U.S. Govt. troops will be in Iraq for many years, as will Multi-Natls and of course the oil Corps.
