Bush Urging Allies to Move Beyond Iraq
Bush Urging Allies to Move Beyond Iraq
By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent

Sunday, February 20, 2005
(02-20) 18:32 PST BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) --

President Bush was seeking to repair rocky relations with Europe on Sunday, saying "no power on earth will ever divide us." He was urging allies to move beyond differences over Iraq in the interest of Mideast peace.

"As past debates fade and great duties become clear, let us begin a new era of trans-Atlantic unity," Bush will say in a speech on Monday. Appealing for aid for Iraq, he urges the world's democracies "to give tangible political, economic and security assistance to the world's newest democracy." Excerpts of his address were released on his arrival here.

"Today, America and Europe face a moment of consequence and opportunity," the president will say. "Together we can once again set history on a hopeful course _ away from poverty and despair and toward development and the dignity of self-rule ... away from resentment and violence and toward justice and the peaceful settlement of differences."

2. The problem Bush has is that he is a liar and our allies know it.
The leaders of these countries, who usually consider themselves big players in the world arena, know that Bush considers them little more than pilot fish following in his shark's wake.

He has lied to them all more than once, and they aren't going to buy anymore of his crap now.

5. Ugh, I'm sure they'll buy THAT line. *rolls eyes*
I don't even think * believe's what he's saying, anymore.

And if he does, that's even sadder that he's still buying the bit about Iraq as the "world's newest Democracy".

Yeah, but where is the accountability?

8. So, as expected, Rice was the warm-up act...
... for the same message--"get over it and started helping us, just so long as we run things."

I recall much the same sort of talk in the months after Bush declared "Mission Accomplished."

Sy Hersh is said to be working on an article saying that the first election for "the world's newest democracy" was fudged....

10. Apparently, he's sacked our treasury,
sacked Iraq's, now he wants the rest of the world to toss money into Iraq so he can get that too.

13. I noticed that, too.
(snaps fingers) I was wrong. I wrote recently that Bush was headed for Europe "with a checkbook, loaded to the max". I thought he was going over there to bribe, cajole, threaten, and flagrantly wave money in front of their faces to get them to do his bidding.

Looks like I was wrong.

They need to rename this trip to the "Pimping Tour".

12. "No power on earth will ever divide us"
Actually, no power on earth could make Bushism palatable to Europe.

18. I wish he would just not even bother.
It's not like he gives a shit what they think anyway. He'll only hear what he wants to hear.

Oh, and as for this gem: "No power on earth will ever divide us."

This coming from the man who, um, DIVIDED EUROPE AND THE U.S.!
