Kill me and oil stops: Chavez
Kill me and oil stops: Chavez

From correspondents in Caracas
February 21, 2005
From: Agence France-Presse

VENEZUELAN President Hugo Chavez has threatened to suspend oil exports to the US if someone tries to assassinate him, saying US President George W. Bush would be to blame.

"If they kill me, there will be a really guilty party on this planet whose name is the president of the United States, George Bush," Mr Chavez said on his weekly radio program, Hello, Mr President.
"If these perverse plans succeed, by the devil's hand ... forget about oil, Mr Bush."

Mr Chavez said he was convinced that Washington had been "sketching out the assassination plans".

Mr Chavez revealed a week ago that Cuban President Fidel Castro had warned him of a US assassination plot.

"Now, I am going to say it. Neither Fidel Castro nor I talk nonsense.

"If something happens to me, I blame the president of the United States," he said.

1. Nice to hear someone laying it on the line.....
I'm sure the US does have plans to kill him, and good for him for not skirting
the real issue--oil.

3. He was the focus of a CIA supported coup and he overcame that with
a little help from his friends.

4. So bush has now put America at the mercy of any idiot assassin
Chavez has inadvertently put himself in more danger. It's a lose-lose situation for Chavez, whether he speaks up or doesn't. He knows bush wants him out of the way, but now he's given someone the perfect motivation to assassinate him, because in doing so, the retribution would be taken out on the United States, and people all over the world would wonder, "Did george bush order a hit on Chavez?"

bush had better do all he can to make sure Chavez receives all the protection he needs. It isn't Chavez that is now the target; he is merely the means to accomplish the ends of destroying bush politically. bush could never survive Venezuela shutting off their oil supply. Chaos.
